WhenI installed my ORCAD on a Windows 10 computer a while back, every time I run the Cadence License Server Configuration (when I swap USB dongle/license... because our company has a few), I always get this message at the very last step:
"Cadence License Server Configuration utility has detected that it needs to install the FLEXid 9 dongle driver on your system. Please make sure to connect your FLEXid USB dongle to an available USB port. The driver installation process may take a few minutes. Click OK to continue or Cancel to terminate the Cadence License Server Configuration utility"
I always click "OK" and it does its thing... long wait... and it gives the message below (which I always ignore because at the end the license/dongle still work as intended and the software is usable).
"- Unable to restart Cadence License Server with the new license file "..... ". Failed to install FLEXid dongle driver. Failed to update your CDS_LIC_FILE license path with the new license server setting "....".
Fast forward... June 2020, I installed the same software on a new computer I recently assembled running on the latest Windows 10 update. I went through the above License Server configuration process and when it got to the step where it says that the FLEXid 9 dongle driver needs to be installed, I clicked "OK" as usual. However this time after just a few seconds of clicking "OK", the system rebooted. This process is repeatable and the system will just reboot at this step on the process. The FLEXID information is blank on the System Settings at LMTOOLS which gives me the impression that the dongle is not installed and the information from it could not be retrieved.
After a series of long frustrating trial-and-error and numerous reboots, my computer finally gave up and showed Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). It referenced an error "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" related to the file "aksdf.sys". Now the more annoying thing is that my computer is now going to an endless loop of BSOD showing that issue. I did some Googling at it seems like the latest Windows 10 May 2020 update (version 2004) has some issues with this file.
Further Googling, this file is described as "The genuine aksdf.sys file is a software component of Aladdin HASP by Aladdin Knowledge Systems. Aladdin HASP (Hardware Against Software Piracy) a digital rights management (DRM) suite of protection and licensing software. Aksdf.sys is a filter driver that is necessary for the proper functioning of HASP. The component adds support for specialized external devices. Removing this file may cause problems with Aladdin hardware." It seems like Flexera is using this.
I think we have a central license server for our other Cadence softwares. However for ORCAD someone started getting a USB-dongle version and that's how everybody went afterwards. We ended up with several USB dongles, each maintained (or misplaced) by different people.
I am seeing suggestions of rolling out older versions of Windows 10 (prior to this update). Unfortunately the new PC has this latest version installed (after fresh installation) so there is no older version to rollback to. I have to find a way to get this older version somewhere.
I have the same issue after fresh setup of windows 10 incl latest updates (19042.685). Before v17.2 just worked fine but now after installing LMTool (v12.7..) my pc ends up with a blue screen immediately after start. Only safe mode booting and deinstalling LMTools stopped it. No idea how to fix that
Just fought an odd issue. i had my Winblows update paused. About 4 weeks ago I had an update that slipped through and had no choice but to accept it. i thought nothing of it, but had issues since then. I emailed QC and they told me to check my Nvidia Control Panel. I couldn't access it and then I was being asked to accept the update of drivers I did 2 months ago. I had to do a clean reinstall of those same drivers and now my issues seemed to have gone away. Windblows is getting really old and wish we could run Mastercam on a Linux System.
07-10-2020 - The latest version of Microsoft Windows 10 (2004) introduced a defect that causes a conflict with the HASP driver installed with every version of Mastercam. This conflict can cause a Blue Screen error, necessitating a system restoration. Microsoft is aware of the issue and is working on a timely resolution. The latest HASP driver found in the link below will prevent this from happening. Please install this driver as soon as possible, and before installing any version of Mastercam. We are working on a workaround to the Microsoft defect.
My question is if you have already installed the WIndows 10 2004 update. Will it be ok to install the Hasp Update after this windows update installs? Is there steps to take before installing the Hasp Update? Need details if someone could provide this information.
Mastercam Mill 2021 update 1 Launching Machine Sim from "Machine Simulation" options panel Mastercam will crash when Machine Simulation is closed
After crash, Machine Simulation will not run (crashes on launch) until mwMachSim.ini is deleted.
W also found an issue with the corner radius on an endmill showing collisions in MachSim even when the tool is not touching any surfaces. If you remove the corner radius, the issue goes away. This was also submitted to CNC Software.
I did not set the update to install. For the longest time the update showed available. Then after about 2 months(???) it showed that it was downloaded and ready to install. A day later I went to lunch and came back to find it being installed on my computer. No one knows why or how the install started. Any way I was hopeful that things would go well and everything did until I opened an older MC2018 file that I was going to convert to MC2021. When I opened MachSim to verify toolpaths, all hell broke loose. I was having freezing issues and then nothing in MachSim would work. It gave an error message that didn't make any sense to me so I call MLC to have a look. That is when we deleted the mwMachSim.ini. I was able to get Mastercam to open and then was able to open a file, but then Mastercam became a brick. Nothing was working. So we uninstalled all of the updates and reverted back a day.
Something else that happened prior to the update was that AVG was somehow installed on my PC. It was a flag and I called IT. They couldn't tell me how it was installed. (We already have a product that we were using.) They told me to just uninstall it.
When the update was installed, I was using the other parts of the system like Word and Excel, I noticed the system was very smooth and responsive. Everything just seem to work better. That is until I opened MachSim.
I have downloaded the drivers from the Thales website and the dongles light up but they are still not being recognized by Chief Architect after I put the CD key info in. I get the usual prompt to run the trouble shooter etc.
I am not willing to go backwards to XP or Vista as those operating systems are not quite stable enough for my liking. I have heard of a user here being able to run CAV10 on a laptop with windows 10 on it.
I maybe able to still find the XP mode file on an old hard drive and re install it but I would much rather prefer to find the correct drivers first to install on the Windows 10 PC. Since others have done this with CAV10.
I would hope that someone here might be able to tell me, by going into the device manager and clicking on the dongles and then tell me what driver is being used by the system to get Chief Architect version 10 or 9.5 to run on Windows 7 or higher ?
A concern about Hasp Drivers is that the company that made those products has since been bought by others and the current company no longer supports those old dongles with drivers. That is the main reason I did what I did as it was the most logical thing to do (use the Operating System designed for the drivers and software they were created for available from the Chief Website and installation materials). I mainly use the really antique versions for .pl1 etc files too old to be converted by X8.
Does that mean that a correct driver for the HASP/USB dongle for CAV10 has been installed on your surface laptop with windows 10 ? Or is CAV10 running without a HASP/USB dongle on you surface laptop ?
I do have a surface pro tablet with windows 10 on it and it does have a USB port on it as well. I will try install CAV10 on it and see if this tablet will recognize the HASP/USB dongle or run without it ?
I have no problems opening the plan file with much later versions of the CA like X8. The layout files were many and quite complicated with this split level home. Since it was about 17 years ago that I did that job and I need to get my head around the plans before remodeling the house and adding new rooms to it. I need to open the layout file in the early version of CA if that is possible ?
I tried asking Thales but they replied that I needed to contact the Vendor for support. The Vendor is Chief Architect in this case so they will need to help us with this issue if they are indeed willing and able to do so ?
