Hi all, 

I am doing some work on the NOICE - VERDUN project this evening. I have a few items in my agenda to get through. If anyone is available, you can send a reply and we can connect via a chat or Hangout to work together. I'll report back here later. 

My todo list 

• Communication
• Contact Mirella and Lino Saputo Foundation (email to prepare for a phone call / meeting)
• Contact the office of the Verdun Mayor (email - we already know them)
• Exchange with Marc-Andre about ''business plan'' 
•  Infrastructure
  
• Create a Google Calendar specific for the Verdun project - better coordination and planning
• Produce a project roadmap
• Brainstorm and perhaps produce some orientation / visualization tools
• Set the tone for a future normative system (rules, norms) and culture for the project
• Writing
• work a bit on the MESI proposal
• work a bit on the Extensive project description

Hi all, 

Abran and I had a great work session. 

We didn't go through the entire list of tasks, so more to do for tomorrow. 

• I took initiative to restructure the project page completely, to make it more readable on mobile devices. 
  
• On SENSORICA
• On Ouishare
• Abran suggested to create a visual of the partnership that we are establishing around the project. I did that, go to the link above and look for Partnership. If you have better ideas, please suggest, or edit from here. 
• I created a Google Calendar for better coordination and planning, specific for this project. This calendar is public. You can find it at the same link above, look for Agenda.  
  
• We brainstormed on the MESI proposal, and I am proposing to create a thematic structure that maps their criteria of evaluation. We fit very well, but we need to make it simple and transparent for them. 
• Abran and I tackled a HUGE task and I think we came out with something very cool. That is connected to the Work Plan for the project that Abran will help develop in the  Extensive project description (look for the Work Plan section in there). So we worked on stages of development of the 5 CELLs that we are going to create, which will drive 5 stages of independence or autonomy from the Consortium's influence, to become fully autonomous federated CELLS after 5 years, when the funding is over. We use the metrics that we have proposed for the entire project to evaluate when a CELL moves to the next stage level of development and autonomy. If you need more context on this please watch THIS video. This task took us more than one hour of brainstorming. You can find the essence here (to be developed further, please provide input). 

NOTE on involvement and work ethics 

The NOICE - LE VOICE project is highly important for SENSORICA and OuiShare, very complex and can have a huge impact on the Canadian economy and the world economy. We are using open governance and methodologies for deploy it, as we are building a foundation for the collaborative economy here in Montreal. It is highly recommended that those who decide to participate in the project accept responsibility, adopt the best practices and use the best methodologies in collaborative work. Think of this as professional collaborative work rather than fun collaborative work. 

What are the best practices and the best methodologies in collaborative work? What is professional collaborative work? 

No one is the God of collaboration. But some people have been in it for longer than others, have seen more than others. The best advice, if you are new to the collaborative work, ask questions before you take initiative, discuss the how with those around you, stay on top of things.

Hi Marc-Andre, 

The visual with Partners is just a start, it contains only these organisations who have signed a letter of intent or manifested a strong interest in the project. I tried to arrange them in categories. 

We need to link them to Services and other Capabilities that we build around LE VOICE. For example, Grandir sans Frontieres already provides digital education to kids. In collaboration with LE VOICE they can do more and the entire ecosystem in enriched. Can someone think about how to modify this visual draft to include Services and Capabilities in the same picture?

If you want to help us getting more partners around the project, feel free to contact them, explain the project and send them this doc that helps them write a support letter. 

For your comments about revenue streams we need to build on the Sustainability doc. Make sure that you include in the process people who have on the ground experience in running an open space and collaborative ventures - place the doc in the shared VERDUN folder and use this Forum to invite others for feedback and participation. Also note that LE VOICE can be presented as an Incubator and Accelerator of a new kind. CELLs should not be presented simply as service providers, they don't just use a simple library or gym model (pay-per-use) like most fablabs and makerspaces do. Their model do have pay-per-use features but goes beyond that. Moreover, CELLs should not be presented as single units. They are autonomous but they are part of a larger structure, sharing IT infrastructure and a level of federation governance. We need to find a way to explain that complexity in simple terms.  

DO NOT modify the actual budget spreadsheet, because at this point in time it constituted the basis of an agreement between us and our partners, including David. Feel free to make a copy of this budget and propose en improvement.

The budget you proposed needs to be Redon using the examples I provided. It requires mode details in some areas, there has to be some realistic estimates of revenues and tangible benefits and also needs to look at cash-flows to ensure the liquidity is maintained. Keep in mind that the civil servants evaluating the project will apply standard financial and project evaluation criterion, whether we like it or not.

Also, the mapping to the evaluation criterion is a great idea, but keep in mind that is has to be realistic and believeable from the point of baies of the evaluators, not ours.

Hi,  a few comments on this part.

The ecosystem should also include groups like EcoFab. Even if they don't work with us now, they will eventually have to I think. Also include the CSMV (School board in west part of Montreal), they have 5 fablabs in schools all around Verdun.

In education, you should link to Academia as Universities have multiple mandates, which include education.

We should include the makers, associations that are linked to making directly or indirectly (woodworking clubs,m HAM Radio clubs, Club Framboise, etc.)

Je crois qu'ils sont assez bien quantifies ici. Nous pouvons toujours raffiner... 

Le gros travail sera comment attirer de l'investissement. Ce n'est pas simple a expliquer de maniere concise, car nous sommes dans une situation ou l'on doit tenir compte de l'aspect crowdsourcing et des contributions nature des partenaires (Robco par example avec de l'equipment qui vaut des millions s'ils participent avec a un Techshop / Fablab). Pour l'investissement classique, il faut decrire le nouveau context de l'investissement dans des entreprises collaboratives a caractere ouvert, qui sont nos cibles premieres, des projets comme la Matrioshka. Ce n'est pas facile a vendre de l'equite dans ce genre d'entreprise, car c'est nouveau et les VCs ne le comprennent pas encore. Du cote des fonds mutuels il y a une ouverture, mais nous devons les angager. Pas le temps pour engager des fonds mutuels pour cette sumission, mais nous pouvons quand meme estimer un potentiel d'investissement et enumerrer les enjeux.

TASK: Can anyone do a rapid search and produce a short report / synthesis for impact investment and mutual credit unions, see what type of funding they engage, how open they are to collaborative ventures with a social mission? Pick up some numbers, % of their investment or $/year dedicated to this type of initiatives, their selection/evaluation criteria/metrics, ...

The first page is harder... because we need to introduce the project and us. This is the most important part.
