Hello again,
I know it's been a while. I am sorry for the delay in getting this going, as I said, we took a break over the holidays.
Our member dues are $45 per month. If you and your crew were to be willing and able to do things that way we could give you 2 nights per week.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks

-JakeHi Jake,Hear you loud and clear and I fully appreciate your willingness to accommodate for a smaller less organized group. Paying a monthly due similar to what roller derby folks pay could be a really cool option. I look forward to updates. Thanks for working with us.

I will go back to the BoD and see what we can come up with, but I need you to understand a few things:
First off, I'm not sure you get what a big deal it was for us to agree to waive the requirement for you to have insurance. Our policy requires any subletters to have their own policy naming us as additional insured. To forego that means we are voiding our insurance policy. Which in turn means we are voiding our lease, since we are required to carry insurance by the landlord.
We agreed to 'look the other way' on insurance because we know what it is like for a small, unconventional sport to try to establish a foothold against all kinds of logistics. We also know what a large amount of money you save by us waiving that requirement.
Second, beyond telling you what our rent is and pointing out how that will inform what we ask for a sublet, I never quoted any numbers to you. $120 per month for 2 sessions per week is not going to happen. To look at that one way, at 3 hours a night, that's at least 24 hours per month or $5 per hour.
Put another way, that would be $20 per person per month if you have the 6 people you stated. That's less than half what our members pay in dues for minimum 2 practices per week. We will not sublet the space for less than what our members pay, it would devalue our membership.
I am waiting to hear back from Kelly Abbot at Hockey Town. I have asked her a number of questions about their relationship with the Boston Bike Polo club. At this point I may be able to pitch something where your people pay our monthly member dues and get 2 sessions per week, but that's pending BoD approval.
We are holding elections for our 2014 BoD on Monday, so we are a bit busy right now. I will get back to you as soon as I can.
Thanks,
Jake Fahy

Hi there,
So I did a little research into what the Boston Polo Club pays for renting a court at Hockey Town USA in Saugus MA. They get the court for 4 hours for $120. The hockey town spot has goals, 4 foot professional quality boards and other over head like a snack bar and all the rest. Also Boston is a bigger club than we are and thus can afford it. That being said. They probably get in there once or twice a month.
While I appreciate that you can't give the place away for free I hope we could negotiate a bit on price. When we first spoke I vaguely remember a price at about 120 per month if we had the spot at about 2 per week. It seems like the board has a much different idea of the cost. I think that 30 per night would be about what we could afford initially if we were to play there once per week. If its only one night every once in awhile we could pay a bit more but if we are going through the process of making the court work, it would be great to get more use from the space.
To make the space work we would need to build some short boards (on our dime of course) for the three walls. Each night it will take a little to setup, putting up short retaining boards on the three walls and bringing in the goals. So about 3 hours would be what we would need to make it worth it for us per night. That being said, if we go through the trouble of setting up the space for bike polo it could also become a space well equipped for street hockey. That might be another rental opportunity for y'all.
Anyways let me know what you all are thinking. I realize our funds are low but I don't want to end the conversation here. Hope the leaks in the roof are getting better.
Cheers,
Jake

Hello Derby folks,
Last night I poked my head in and talked to Jake about subletting the space one or two nights per week for bike polo. I'm checking in with the interest on our side of things and we would need to see if the surface would work for us but Im sure there are a lot of considerations as well.
Please let me know if I can answer any questions or partake in any discussions. Using this space would be huuuuuuge for our polo club.
By the way I work right upstairs from you all at Anzovin Studio.
Cheers,
Jake
