5. check your D: drive and make sure it shows the drive mounted on your desktop
6. If not, remove drive and add a new one with the path to your mounted drive

You can right click the shortcut to the disk on the desktop to find where its mounted.
in Mint /media/username/diskname
I think...

How do i find the correct path to my cd-rom drive? I want to install office 2007 using wine and I have used the programmerfish tutorial and now have to do the following:
type wine /path to cd/setup.exe

When you insert the CD, your device notifier will show the CD. You can click on that to open (it will mount and open for you) using Dolphin or some other program. Open that and then try the command mentioned by Knurpht.

I have an IBM 466 DX2 with the default CD-ROM drive installed like normal. I wanted to install Windows 95, so I first tried to install on top of the version of DOS already on the hard drive. It had the driver for the CD-ROM installed and booted into setup. Partway through setup, it detected a previous version of Windows on the hard drive, and said that I needed to get a Windows 95 upgrade. Of course, I wasn't going to find that, so I had DOS format the hard drive. I then tried to do a install with the boot floppy. When booted, it displays an Oak Technologies CD-ROM driver, but then says it doesn't find a CD-ROM drive and aborts. I need to find a driver that works with the Windows 95 boot disk so I can boot into setup.

From your pictures you have a CD-ROM manufactured by Matsushita for IBM with a model number of CR-563BBZ. This drive uses Matsushita's proprietary interface, so won't work with the the OAKCDROM.SYS driver which only supports CD-ROM drives using the IDE interface. It is however not connected to your sound card, its connected to it's own LaserMate CD-ROM interface card (labelled LMEP0084C). Your sound card is just behind it, it's the card with the silk screened CT2770 at the top.

I'm not sure if your LaserMate interface card needs its own drivers, or if it's compatible with the Matsushita interface card and so can use the Matsushita drivers. If it is compatible then what you need to do is copy CDMKE.SYS to the root directory of your boot floppy. You'll then need to add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS file:

However if it doesn't work the first time, then I would suggest disconnecting the CD-ROM drive from the interface card and connecting it to your sound card instead. The model number on the card, CT-2770, indicates that it's a Sound Blaster 16 Value which should also have Matsushita proprietary CD-ROM interface. You'd then need to change the line added to CONFIG.SYS above to:

Other numbers you can try with the /SBP: option are 240, 260, and 280. However your Sound Blaster 16 is very likely using port 220 and you can verify this by checking to see if the jumpers labelled IOS0 and ISO1 at the bottom middle of the board are both installed. If they're not both installed then it's using port 240 if ISO0 is not jumpered but ISO1 is jumpered, port 260 if ISO0 is jumpered but ISO1 is not jumpered, or port 280 if neither ISO0 nor ISO1 are jumpered.

I tried to add a drive (in winecfg) and point it to /dev/sr0 with type "cdrom" but it does not seem to make a difference. Apparently winecfg wants a drive letter to correspond to a mount point, but I am unsure of what to indicate. Kde does not seem to mount cdrom in /media/cd as it used to be the case (I think).

I get the devices to show up in wines explorer, even if not mounted, simply by creating those links. But apparently only the first letter for a specific device is respected. What wine version are you using? Try to load the registry and make sure wine actually is not running between changes.

So is the drive mounted or not? I mean outside wine. When loading registry, if I recall correctly, wine performs some checks and refreshes entries. The last one is for killing wine, use simply 'wineserver -k' if you did not specify any WINEPREFIX.

This is exactly what it is not working for me under wine. If I insert an audio cd (or a blank cd) I can access it from linux audio apps (such as k3b).
But I cannot do the same from Windows' audio apps running wine, such as Exact Audio Converter.
EAC just does not see the cd at all and keeps asking me to insert a cd into the drive. No matter how many times I do that, it is never recognized.

Since you appear to be interested in exact copies of audio cds, try cdparanoia or something semi automatic like abcde. For the workaround you could also try to run winecfg in parallel to EAC, in the same wineprefix, and change the drives mounting point there, then revert back.
Should you consider this issue solved, then please mark the thread as such, maybe add [WORKAROUND] also.

Then modify the "drives" section of winecfg with a (possibly new) drive letter and make it point to the mount point (/media/cd1 in the example). Be sure to select "CD-ROM" as the drive type (under the "Show advanced" option of winecfg).

Just upgraded my Mac to Sonoma 14.1.1. Computer was new July 2023. I want to upload some more CDs and the Mac doesn't recognize the CD drive. It is an LG Model GP65NB60. When connected to Mac it is on, can hear disk spinning, but can't access drive. Please help. Thanks.

I've got the same problem. Trying to load Turbotax onto my MacBook Air using an apple cd reader connected through an Anker hub. The computer was bought in December 2022 and I ran turbotax successfully in 2023 for my 2022 taxes. My system is now updated to Sonoma 14.2.1 and the cd drive doesn't show up on the desktop and I can't even insert the disc. It all worked last year. What is going on?

I have a couple of external CD burners that I use connected to a MacBook Prom with M3 Max chip and they are both flakey with Sonoma. I burn CDs to use doing my radio show. Here at a few things I have found out:

If there is a CD that it can't read in the drive try this. Hold down the mouse or track pad button while you are connecting the drive to the computer, often this will eject a CD that can't be seen or read. First it will try to read it and then spit it out. Another thing to try is shut the computer off with Cd drive connected. Hold the mouse button down while starting up the computer. Y will have to hold it down a long time! I think the finder is spitting it out, so that need to load first.

To burn Cds on my setup I have to connect the CD drive after I have logged into the computer. In System Settings I have under 'CDs & DVDs" I have "Ask What to Do" selected so it asks when I put in a blank CD. When I have it set to open Music it does not work well. When I put in a blank CD is asks what to do with "Open Finder" selected so I just choose "OK". Then I go into "Music" select the playlist I want to burn and choose "Burn Playlist To disk" from the "File" menu. It is still flakey. If the computer looses contact with my player I have to unplug the player and plug it back in. Then start over, both of my drives work fine on my older computer.

This is what shows when I click on external. No idea what it means. Does not appear to be referring to my CD drive. The only other thing attached is the Samsung external drive that I use for Time Machine backup. I d on't think it's referring to that either. -

I sympathize. I ended up buying a new external drive. Never could figure out why the old one wouldn't work, but they are only about $30. New one is read by Mac just fine. Don't know how old you drive is. Mine was 6-7 years old and I just figured maybe the new OS didn't like it. Good luck

It's not connected directly because it has the old type of USB plug and computer doesn't. Not sure I can even get a new cord that would connect directly because of the end that goes into the drive. BUT, next question is: there are only 4 USB ports on back, so I think I will always need a hub for something. Are some hubs better than others? Thank you so much for answering.

In System Settings CD & DVD does NOT show. In Finder Settings Show CDs is checked. But it's not connected direct to computer because it has the old type of USB plug and iMac doesn't. Any other ideas. Do you think it's possible that it's too old to be identified. It's probably about 6 years old, but very rarely used. Only to upload CD to Mac.

Yes, some hubs are better than others. I prefer OWC (MacSales.com) for my 3rd party hardware. They have an excellent customer support group and can suggest which of their many self powered hubs would work best with your particular Mac, workflow and budget.

Okay, back again. I got an adapter and plugged dvd drive directly into computer. It has electricity, as in open and closes to take CD, but it does not show in finder. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks/

Last time to try. There is a disk and I can hear that the drive is working, but Mac still won't recognize it. Any last suggestions? If not I will get a new drive. Too frustrating. Thanks for everyone's help

Windows XP Professional restricts access to CD-ROM drives by default and fre:ac would normally display a warning about this. In your case, however, the warning is suppressed as it finds your virtual drive.
