There exists a lot of articles related to bicycle motors and
optimization on Internet. The problem is to find the right ones. Here

Induced current in motor axle can cause Electric Discharge Machining
(EDM) damages to bearings.

EDM damage on bearings has historically only been a problem on larger
motors. Unfortunately, electronic commutation at high PWM frequencies
may create such damage on small motors as well. This may happen on the
Nohassel and other motors with high PWM frequency and operating
voltage above 25V unless the motors and controllers are correctly
designed.
