I have now uploaded the following files:

1) An Excel sheet showing the relationship between the two motors at
various speed and load, including efficiency calculations.

2) A set of preliminary drawings showing all assemblies of the
propulsion & brake unit (PBU - nice to invent some fancy acronyms).
The current weight is 2,2kg and it will probably become 2,5 with
hardware for attaching to cycle. Hopefully we will be able to reduce
that weight after testing the first prototype.

3) Some pictures of simulation results in nice colours can also be
found. They show the planet carrier at 8000RPM and 10,5Nm torque.

4) A couple of illustartive pictures of the PBU.

Thanks for posting the files, Per.

Would it be possible to have a 3D PDF of the model, also?

Miles,

I can generate packages that contains 3D models for viewing in a web browser for those who do not want to use SE viewer or editor, but I would prefer to avoid that as much as possible as it takes quite a long time to generate. Please let me know for which parts or assemblies this is required.

In the meantime I will post the latest versions of 3D and 2D in Solid Edge (SE) file format. The reasons are:
- I use SE for modelling. Distributing my "source files" makes it easy for other users to modify parts and assemblies
- SE files can easily be used for simulation purposes.
- SE files can be bidirectly linked to PCB layout software improving coupling between mechanical and electronic design.
- SE files can be directly viewed in a freeware viewer.
- 2D SE files can be created or modified in a freeware editor.
- Distributing in 3D PDF makes it harder for other to modify models.
- I can not currently generate 3D PDF directly so I would have to buy extra SW.

Go here to download the viewer (requires user registration): https://www.plm.automation.siemens.com/forms/solidEdgeViewer.shtml

Go here to get the free 2D editor (requires user registration): http://www.plm.automation.siemens.com/en_us/products/velocity/solidedge/free2d/index.shtml

Per.

I have Acrobat 3D - I could generate 3D PDFs from your SE files, if
you think it would be useful?

I use Alibre for modelling - so I could only import STEP AP 214
versions to that (losing parametrics/history).

Thanks for the links - downloading..... : )

Miles,

I do not know how useful it is with 3D PDF files but I can send you STEP files for you to convert if you feel it is worth the effort. But remember that the motor design is still under development, so it is quite resource demanding to keep up to date.

Per,

I can generate the PDFs direct from your Solid Edge files, I think.

Maybe, as you hint, wait until the design is finalised and then create
PDFs, for easy viewing by the masses...

The S.E. viewer is fine, for me.

Hi Per,

The videos won't run, on my system.

Please could you tell me which codec I need?

Thanks,

Miles

Hi Miles,

It says "Indeo Video 5" in the properties but I can regenerate them in a different format if you think that would be best.

Cheers,
Per

Per,

I definitely have that codec - must be a glitch in my system.

I'll investigate further...
