DEADLINE: FRIDAY, MARCH 16, 2012
The Baltimore Public Art Commission, in collaboration with Friends of Druid Hill Park and Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks, is seeking to commission a local professional artist for the Druid Hill Park Tree Stump Carving project. The selected artist is to create artwork out of two existing tree stumps located at Druid Hill Park as part of the Druid Hill’s Earth Month and Arbor Day in April 2012. The application deadline is Friday, March 15, 2012 by midnight. Applications are online at www.promotionandarts.com, located under the “City Arts” tab. The Baltimore Public Art Commission, managed by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, is responsible for the administering of the city’s 1% For Public Art Program, as well as the review and approval of all gifts of permanent public art to the city of Baltimore.
This request for qualifications is open to professional artists or artist team. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Submission requirements include a completed application form, artist statement, résumé, proposed concept consisting of a drawing/sketch, six images of past work along with an annotated image list and references.
The selected artist or artist team is responsible for securing both the quality and maintenance of the final art piece. The budget allocated for the project includes all costs associated with the successful completion of the artwork.
The artistic carvings of the two tree stumps are a highlight for Baltimore Green Week and part of EcoFest on Saturday, April 21, 2012. Additionally, visitors of Druid Hill Park are invited to view the tree carving process as an open event for the celebration of Earth Month activities.
