We are looking for a good local hardware store (not Home Depot) to get a few washers etc. It seems the big stores don’t do the basics like the old mom and pop places did. Anyone have recommendations?

Thanks,

Emily on Elsrode

There is a hardware store on York Rd  near the corner of Register.    It had Bondo, when I could not find it anywhere else.

The used to be a family run store in the 3700 or 3800 block of Falls
Road, in Hamden...Sirkis Hardware. I've found things here when could
not find them elsewhere.

There is Lehman Hardware at 5921 Belair Rd. They have special ordered
items for me that the big box stores don't carry. For plumbing items,
Falkenhan's Hardware in Hamden used to be great (they had lot's of
other items also.) I haven't been there in years so don't know if
anything has changed. They helped me adapt my old plumbing to new
parts when the "experts" at Home Depot said it couldn't be done.
Sirkis Hardware was also good, but I haven't been there in years.
They sometimes had items at lower prices than Home Depot and had items
Home Depot didn't.

There is one on York Rd.toward the Stoneleigh Community ,I don't know
the name
of it ,but it is a few blocks past Party City / Towson. Uncle Wigglies
is a landmark.

That is a good suggestion. It is somewhere near the intersection of
Stevenson Lane and York Rd and Uncle Wigglies is a good landmark. As you go
north on York, its on the right hand side, you can't miss it.
A second idea is Stebbins in the Kenilworth Mall just inside the Beltway
between Charles and York. Its a bit further, but I have had very good luck
finding things there that I couldn't find at Home Depot.

You just reminded me. Don't forget about Theiss Plumbing. They are on
Harford Rd. between Walther and Cold Spring/Moravia. Plumbers go there
instead of supply houses when they are looking for older parts or unusual
parts.

The name is Ayd Hardware & is at the corner of York & Murdock Roads, one block south
of Register Ave. They just renovated the store.
