Hi Nogli,
Just wanted to share an incident that occurred in the last week. At about 9:30 PM, a gentleman with a clip board and a name tag knocked on the door. My wife answered and asked if she could help him. He insisted he wasn't trying to sell anything, and that we must be "security minded" individuals. When my wife told him we were not interested and told him that "it's 9:30 on a weeknight... why are you knocking on our door?", he would not leave.... so she came and got me.

When I came to the door I immediately told him we aren't interested. He stood there looking at me blankly.... He said I'm not selling anything, but since you have ADT, you must be a smart individual trying to keep your home safe. I cut him off and told him to save his speech and that it's past 9:30 pm and you shouldn't be knocking on my door. He told me " I just wanted to speak to the homeowners about security options." I said we ARE the homeowners... and we are NOT INTERESTED. He finally got off my porch and walked down Walther.

Now if this were the end of it, I would not be writing this message. This evening we were returning from a weekend getaway and unloading things into our home. My dogs started going crazy and I noticed this guy walking quickly back down the street. I smiled at him but figured I had said enough to him the other night...

He awkwardly says "Hey! Oh by the way... I heard your house alarm going off the other day. So I called ADT for you... I have to call because I'm licensed by the police department. Was everything ok?" I said "thanks, everything is fine." Our house alarm did go off last week because a glass break sensor was set off. Luckily there was nothing wrong, and sometimes if our dogs get too playful where it is it can accidentally set off. The commentary tonight is what made me feel a little leery and uncomfortable. Why are you close enough to my home to know when my home alarm goes off? What's this BS about you having to report to the police department.... but you called ADT... I don't buy it. Something tells me that he was a little too close to our house for a reason. I'll soon be putting up some security cameras, because there is just too much shadiness going on these days.

So, I'm not going to say watch out for this guy... because he could be just another door to door salesperson trying to make a living, albeit very annoyingly. Or he could be a little suspect... which is how I felt after speaking to him again this evening. I'll allow you to make your own judgement.

Has anyone else dealt with this guy? Any suggestions about what to do in this situation? Feel free to message me offline.

Thank you!
-Rosie

Yes. Extremely persistant. I finally had to shut the door on him mid-sentence. His script to "sell you nothing" is to not take "no. "

My concern is that he may have intentionally set our alarm off.... I don't know, but seems very strange he would just happen to be by our house.

Hi NOGLI,
Seems as though I've heard a lot of similar situations, both privately and publicly. Very persistent taller either african american gentleman/possibly hispanic descent, late 20's-late 30's. His name tag said Ricardo (something). Either harassing homeowners and not taking no for an answer, or frantically walking up and down people's blocks staring at houses on his cell phone or writing things down with a clip board. Most responses have indicated that people will be calling the police when/if he is seen again. I think it wouldn't hurt for them to ask him a  few questions about his business in the area, considering the concern that more than a few of us have. Have also heard from current Vivint customers who also think this is suspicious, as they have had very good experiences.

Thanks so much for all of the responses. I've gotten a good 10-15 people in less than 24 hours, so I appreciate it greatly! Please feel free to continue sharing if you feel the need.

Just curious: Has anyone called Vivint? Perhaps this behavior isn't considered undesirable simply because the company doesn't know about it.

Just finished on the phone with the corporate office. No one matches the description and having the name "Ricardo" in our area. The staff person I spoke to really encouraged me to have anyone else who had had av interaction with this gentleman and can provide any info to call their 800 number. They will take the info down and send to their legal department which investigates these reports.
The number is:(877) 873-9875.

If this gentleman comes to your door, please try to get a full name (I can only remember Ricardo)  and/ or badge Id number.  This would help them know if he's just a bad salesman or imposter.

Thanks for tolerating all the emails. Just don't want anyone to be taken advantage of.

If Vivint cannot identify this salesperson, I would suggest not talking to him at all, not opening you door to him, and calling 911 so that the police can respond and investigate.

Vivint could not identify him based on my description.  If you have different details and want to call and give your description, that's your choice. I'll just call the cops if I see him again.

Thing is: why wouldn't you call?

It would behoove everyone to call 911 when something like this happens. It's not just for your benefit; it's for the benefit of the entire community. No strangers should be casing our homes and calling in our burglar alarms. This warrants (pardon the pun) a call to police and to the company immediately.

I just spoke to My Mom who also lives in Nogli and she actually purchased a system from Brandon. (Installed this weekend) Said he was great to do business with. No issues. Not the same guy though!

I also spoke to a vivint rep yesterday. The guy I spoke with was nice (Brian or Brandon - can't remember). He said he was up from Florida with some other vivint employees. The company is putting them up in a hotel in white marsh and drops them off in neighborhoods to go door to door.
He laid off the sales pitch when I told he we are renters but he tried several times to get the names of my neighbors - very persistent indeed.

I just had a sales rep from Vivint come to the house. The man's badge indicated his name was Che Kamose. Other than having memorized the names of every homeowner on my street and using their names in a far too familiar way to sell his security system, he wasn't any more aggressive or obnoxious than other salespersons I've encountered. If he comes back tomorrow, it may be a different story...

I'm sorry Rosie and her family had such an unpleasant experience. There are definitely red flags in that person's behavior and situation, especially with the alarm going off. Hopefully he won't return!

We also signed up this last weekend with Brandon. Nice guy, though the process, I think for us, could have gone a little smoother with communication between Brandon and the guy who actually installed the system. I know that on the mobile app or website you can verify that the person is a rep. This situation sounds pretty sketchy.
