Concept maps are a powerful tool for identifying relationships among ideas you learn in class. Understanding these relationships and depicting them visually can help you learn course material at a much deeper level and retain it better, too.
Traditional pre-job training mainly provides theoretical lectures and operational skill training for new nurses. However, it has a single teaching method, lacks in comprehensiveness and flexibility, and has unsatisfactory teaching effects. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the influence of the flipped classroom and mind map in the pre-job training of newly recruited nurses.
Concept mapping was developed as a method of displaying and organizing hierarchical knowledge structures. Using the new, multidimensional presentation software Prezi, we have developed a new teaching technique designed to engage higher-level skills in the cognitive domain. This tool, synthesis mapping, is a natural evolution of concept mapping, which utilizes embedding to layer information within concepts. Prezi's zooming user interface lets the author of the presentation use both depth as well as distance to show connections between data, ideas, and concepts. Students in the class Biology of Cancer created synthesis maps to illustrate their knowledge of tumorigenesis. Students used multiple organizational schemes to build their maps. We present an analysis of student work, placing special emphasis on organization within student maps and how the organization of knowledge structures in student maps can reveal strengths and weaknesses in student understanding or instruction. We also provide a discussion of best practices for instructors who would like to implement synthesis mapping in their classrooms.
Could having frequent, actively engaging homework assignments have helped Alessa learn more from her class? Alessa, like many students, believes that, by reading the textbook, she was doing an adequate job of absorbing knowledge. However, many psychology studies have confirmed that mere passive exposure to knowledge, such as rereading a previously read passage, is not very effective at creating memories (Roediger and Butler, 2011). More fundamentally, passive strategies such as listening and reading seem to do a poor job of developing higher-order thinking skills like problem solving, synthesis or evaluation, even when the material is designed to explain or model those skills (Zoller, 1993). Conversely, psychologists have found that an effective way to reinforce a memory is to retrieve or reconstruct it (Roediger and Butler, 2011). Moreover, research in many domains shows that fostering learning involves deliberate practice of the skills involved; in other words, to teach problem solving, we must give students many problems to solve (Ericsson et al., 2003). Frequent homework can be an opportunity to give students that practice. Studies suggest that assigning homework in college biology classes can increase performance (Lefcort and Eiger, 2003; Orr and Foster, 2013; Carnegie, 2015). Indeed, frequent, active homework that consists of writing or problem solving is an important part of the high or moderate course structure that has been shown to reduce achievement gaps for students from underrepresented groups and to improve learning for all students (Freeman et al., 2011; Eddy and Hogan, 2014).
For K-12, higher education, or home-schooling, mind maps are a great visual way of organizing the educational material around a subject through words, colors, pictures and numbers to illustrate concepts and identify connections.
In the academic world, mind mapping gives teachers meaningful input into the thinking process of their students on a particular subject. With mind maps, teachers can understand what the specific knowledge of students has been and how well they understood the assignment or the material they studied. For students, mind maps are especially useful in writing and provide them with a natural way of thinking and developing thoughts on any subject.
Mind mapping developed by Tony Buzan is a multisensory tool that uses visuospatial orientation to integrate information [9]. Mind maps can be used as a teaching tool to encourage students to integrate information between disciplines and understand the intra- and inter-relationships between concepts, and consequently helps students to organize and memorize information [10]. The added dimensions of pictures and colors that are unique to mind maps not only facilitates memory, but also benefits students with diverse learning styles. Mind mapping has been confirmed to provide an effective study technique in medical education [11].
Distribute cases and task requirements. The MBL group was trained during a class session to use the mind mapping method, and required to use it as a tool for the presentation of the case solution. Prior to the teamwork, both the PBL and MBL members were asked to complete and submit the case analysis individually, with the MBL group in the form of mind mapping. The PBL group was not required to use the mind map.
This type of research is a quasi-experimental research, which uses the Randomized Posttest Only Control Group design. The research population was all students of class X SMAN Airpura in the second semester of the 2021/2022 academic year as many as 6 classes, while the sample was class X4 as the experimental class and class X5 as the control class which was taken using the Purposive Sampling technique. The instruments used are objective tests for cognitive domain competencies, and observation sheets for affective and psychomotor competencies. Based on the results of the study, the biology learning competence of students with TPS-type cooperative learning with mind maps was better than students with conventional learning with mind maps. Evidently, the average value of the cognitive domain of the experimental class students was 74.92, while the control class was 65.42. The average value of the affective competence of the experimental class students was 91.50, while the average value of the control class students was 70.57. The average value of the psychomotor competence of the experimental class students was 88.70, while the average value of the control class students was 67.50. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the cognitive, affective and psychomotor learning competencies of students in the TPS type cooperative learning model with mind map content are higher than conventional learning with mind map content worksheets.
This biology mind map for neet pdf summarizes the necessary content for passing the biology examination and the specific topic.
