A lot of news this week….

PTSA Membership

The Noe PTSA Membership drive is off to a great start with almost 500 members so far! Please help us reach great heights this year by joining the PTSA! Remember, the first 150 who students who join with three or more memberships by Monday, Sept. 1 will be entered into a drawing for one of three Noe T-shirts! And any student with five or more memberships by Friday, October 3 will be entered into a drawing for a $25 Target gift card!

Don't Forget...STUDENT Membership allows students to attend our  two after school membership dances  FREE!

Plus it is your PTSA that provides you with this great newsletter so that you can stay active in the events at your child’s school.

Joining PTSA does not require you to volunteer your time! We would love to have your time and talents, but if you can't volunteer personally, please support our PTSA with your dues! Wouldn't it be great to have 100% membership at Noe Middle School this year?

If you need  more information or a membership form, feel free to contact Kim Williams, Membership Chairperson, at 326-9483, or at jbkr...@bellsouth.net.

News

Noe Middle School has selected a new principal, Jan McDowell.   Jan McDowell is currently the principal at Thomas Jefferson and is a former Noe Middle student and teacher.   Ms. McDowell will not officially be at Noe for several weeks until her successor is named at Thomas Jefferson.  In the meantime, Dr. Kathy Sayre will continue at Noe through the transition.

College Workshop for Middle School Students

College 101, a free college-planning workshop for middle school students and their parents/guardians, will be held on Sat. Sept. 20, at the University of Louisville (UofL) Student Activities Center.  The event, which will be held form 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., will teach parents/guardians how to plan and prepare their middle school child for high school and college.  Session topics include finance, study skills, and expectations.  Students may also tour the U of L campus and meet college students.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided.  The event is free, but registration is requested.  Free parking is available in the Floyd Street garage.  To register, call 852-8917.

Since July, JCPS has a new policy regarding all returned personal checks.   There is a $25 charge for any returned checks.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are fortunate to have so many great activities at Noe for our children each year.  These activities are possible through volunteers and fundraising.  Please consider how you may contribute your talents or time.   We will work with your schedule.

SBDM Parent Representative  (Nomination Form  is attached )  Nomination forms are due into the office by Wednesday, August 27th.

Candy Sale – volunteers are needed to assist on Monday, August 25 unloading candy starting at 8:30 a.m. It is estimated that with enough volunteers it should take no longer than one hour to unload.  Other volunteers are needed to assist in distribution to the students on the same day.   Interested people should contact either Sherri Brooks (sherri...@louisvilleky.gov) or Angie Autry (angi...@yahoo.com)

Candy Drive

Candy bars will be sold for $1.25 each.  The cases have 50 bars in them.  Because this is such a big jump, we will base our prize program on BARS sold not CASES.  This funds our school-wide CATS incentives.  Some parents may prefer to make a donation rather than sell candy.  That is acceptable.  The donation for each prize level is listed below.  When turning in candy money, be sure to indicate if a donation has been made so that we can credit that correctly.  Cash donations are not eligible for top seller prizes.

SELL 40  BARS   ($25 donation)   Flying Ring

SELL 80  BARS   ($50 donation)  Mega Inflatable Event

SELL 120 BARS   ($75 donation)  Jumping Zeebeez

SELL 200 BARS   ($125 donation)  Light Up Key Chain Stobe Ball

SELL 240 BARS   ($150 donation) Flying Ninja

SELL 320 BARS   ($200 donation) Hummer Limo Ride and Lunch to WW Cousins

SELL 400 BARS   ($250 donation)  Light Up Color Changing Chime Clock

SELL 480 BARS   ($300 donation)  Crazy Hair Hat

SELL 600 BARS   ($375 donation)   Play “Deal or No Deal” for a chance to win up to  $50.00 Cash

School Pictures – every child will have their picture taken on August 28th between 8:00 and 2:00 p.m.  Volunteers are needed to assist with organizing the children.  If you have any time you can volunteer, perhaps even your lunch break that day, please contact  Anna Kidwell at alki...@insightbb.com

Opportunities for Individual Fundraising

Boxtop’s for Education - Meijers is giving a bonus certificate for 120 box tops ($12.00) with the purchase of 15 Box top for Education products and many of their box top items are on sale this week.  This is going on through 9/03/08.  That is the equivalent of 135 box tops for the purchase of at most 15 products or 9 for 1!   So stock up on Box top products this week!    Send your box tops and bonus certificate into the office.   (Thank you Debbie McKnight for making us aware of this.)

Campbell’s Soup Labels – see the attachment above, there are many more labels than just the soup labels that earn points.  I am going to have to search my cabinets!

Nestle is also offering funds to schools with K-8 students.  The funds are to be used for playground equipment or fieldtrips.   Noe Middle is signed up.  We earn points from the purchase of Nestle Water Bottles.   Save the labels and send in.  More information is included in the attachment above, Go Play Rewards.

And don’t forget the Tyson A+ tags, these are primarily on prepared foods.

Kroger Gift cards are available for purchase by sending in $5 to the Main Office.  The Kroger card will be sent home via your child unless you send a self addressed stamped envelope.  Use the initial $5 on the card and then you can reload it at the check out lane or at the Customer Service desk.  Save Money for Noe as you shop, pump gas or purchase prescriptions  as 4% of the gross receipts each month go back to Noe for updating our Technology at Noe.  Getting more students involved with computers, keeps us on top!!

I never thought so much money could be raised just by eating and feeding our families!

www.goodsearch.com  - this is a search engine much like Google.  You set up an account and designate Noe Middle School to receive funds from each search.   The site then donates a couple of cents for each search done.  (The site does also monitor to ensure legitimate searches are occurring.)

Office Depot – when you make a purchase, they will designate a portion of the sale to Noe Middle School.  When checking out, request Noe Middle School.  The cashier will have a list of barcodes for all of the schools.

www.upromise.com – You set up an account and this site contributes funds as you direct to your child’s education fund or your child’s school.  The site receives funds from products you purchase or businesses you frequent.  Noe is a registered recipient.  You may register your Kroger card, various other stores cards, and credit cards as well to receive Upromise funds.

Miscellaneous

2008-2009 Yearbooks -   Yearbooks are available for purchase by two means.  Send in an order form that is download able from our newsletter, or go online at jostensyearbook.com and purchase your yearbook and/or choose your options for no extra processing charge.  It is never too early to order your year of memories.  Save $4 by buying early.  If you have questions, please contact Cindy Martin at cin...@aol.com
