UofL is having an Engineering Exposition this Saturday that is open to the public! It provides a hands-on opportunity to learn about science, math, and engineering from multiple disciplines. The event is free to attend and has activities for elementary, middle, and high school students. It is at the J.B. Speed School of Engineering from 8:00-4:00 this Saturday.
This annual event hosted by Speed School showcases undergraduate research, pre-engineering competitions and activities for younger students, guided tours, exhibits and the cutting edge research facilities at UofL. There are 18 different lab activities the kids can view/participate in as well as a few outside vendors, who have lots of info/scholarships/web links/giveaways that the students may find helpful.
James McLurkin is the keynote speaker this year. Using Mother Nature as a model, his core research is developing distributed algorithms for multi-robot systems: the software for large swarms of autonomous robots. Inspired by the behavior of ants and bees, the SwarmBots perform individual tasks that collectively contribute to the goals of the group. They were originally created during his five-year post as Lead Research Scientist at iRobot, one of the world's leading robotics companies. He cherishes his "Nerd Pride", and uses it to help excite the next generation of engineers and scientists.
Much more information is on the website, please take a look if you are interested and enjoy the day!
