NEW:

A Note from our Principal

Parents:  At mid-year we are re-visiting expectations with students.  One area of need is the use of their Agenda Planners.  Please be aware of these expectations to support your student.  If there is a need to replace the Planner, we will be selling them below cost, at *$3* until 1/23/09 only (while supplies last).  After that, the price will return to $5.  Please replace now if needed!!!  Expectations for use of the planners are outlined in the two attached files.  Thank you in advance for supporting your student in his daily learning.   – Jan McDowell

Volunteers Needed for Junior Achievement event!

For the fifth year in a row, we have been offered the opportunity for some of our students (our entire 7th grade) to participate in a wonderful learning opportunity through Junior Achievement, called Finance Park.

The program is a community collaboration in which students are given the opportunity to role-play that for one day they are thirty years old, have a family, and are challenged to meet all their living expenses by balancing their budget on a fixed, monthly income.  After completing a six-week curriculum, students take a trip downtown to visit JA's newly developed Finance Park.  The JA Finance Park is designed as a business district in which students experience consumerism and financial responsibility.

In order for us to participate, we must be able to commit one adult volunteer for every six students.  Volunteers serve as financial advisors, working with a group of six students, giving guidance as they make their consumer decisions.  As a volunteer, your commitment would involve a one hour training session (the morning of the program) and then working with a group of six students for the remainder of that day.  You would need to be at the Finance Park facility (located next to Central High School's football stadium, at 1401 West Muhammad Ali Blvd.) by 8:00 a.m. on the date of your commitment.  The program would end by 1:30 p.m.

Due to the program's design of having one adult volunteer for every six students, we need to recruit 15-20 adults for each of the four days of the event.  If interested in volunteering for one (or several) days, please let us know by contacting Tara Hengartner in the school office at 485-8307.

The dates of the program are:

Wednesday, February 18 (7 Challengers)

Tuesday, February 24 (7 Navigators)

Thursday, February 26 (7 Monarchs)

Tuesday, March 3 (7 Champions)

Box Top Promotion

For those who shop at Meijer's - until January 21, if you purchase 10 "boxtops" products, you get credit for 70 additional boxtops!  That is $7 extra that can be donated for Noe's benefit. So, when you shop before January 21, keep Noe in mind and look for "Boxtop" products you can use.

Thank You to the Volunteers!

Thanks to those who volunteered to help teams with getting their paperwork done!  We still have some teams who need to be paired with a caring parent!

Even an hour a week is a tremendous help to our teachers.  You can work out with the team and the library copy center to find a time that is convenient.

Please contact Maria Sorolis at soro...@insightbb.com if you would like to volunteer.  Thanks for helping out Noe.

This week at Meijer's if you purchase 10 participating products in one purchase that you get a 70 Bonus Box tops = 7.00 for Noe.

Also, don't forget to sign up for Kroger Campbell soup on the Campbell products website.  It keeps track of the number of Campbells products you buy automatically and you no longer have to clip and send in.  We have already received close to 100 points from families who have already joined in a few months.

Special thanks to all families who already turned in Box Tops, Campbell Products, Nestle's Water bottles and Tyson A+.  We have generated 3500 Campbell Soup levels this year already.  Our Goal for this year is 6000 UPC's/Caps that will allow us an extra 1000 bonus for the year.  Keep Clipping and sending to school.  We can reach all of our goals because of the dedicated parents we have at Noe.   A big THANKS for all your contributions.

New Volunteer Opportunities

We have some new volunteer opportunities for parents who want to become involved (or more involved) with their child's school. Please email Maria Sorolis at soro...@insightbb.com  if you can help fill any of these needs.

·         Teachers need help making copies. These are scheduled through our librarians.  This can be arranged according to your schedule.  If you work, you can help in the morning from 7:40 am on.  If you are interested please include information about your availability. (Days of the week and times)

·         Everyone Reads volunteers are needed.  Volunteers meet and read with/mentor students for 30 minutes once a week.

·         Team leaders need to form relationships with parents who are available to help with paperwork related to things like fields trips, fundraising and other inventive programs.  If this sounds interesting to you please also identify whether you are interested in working with a particular team.

Thank you for your continued help to keep our school the best.

Noe Middle School Book Drive

During the holiday season, we like to share with others. At Noe, we are planning to share the gift of reading.  Please bring in any new or gently used books to Mrs. Jeffers (7 Monarchs), Mrs. Hart (7 Challengers), or the school office, by Friday, December 19th.  The books will be given to participants of the Family Reading Nights on January 29 and April 16.  We're looking for books for all ages, from beginning readers to chapter books, to preschool to middle school.

Coke Rewards "no pain, all gain"

Noe PTSA has a new "no pain, all gain" fundraiser.  If you are familiar with Coke Rewards, Noe Middle School is now a registered school at that site.  If you collect Coke Rewards points, all you do is select the "Rewards and Sweepstakes" tab, scroll to the bottom of the window that opens and click the "button" that says school.  Enter Noe's ZIP code (40208)  search by State and City.  Then you can donate your points to benefit our school.  Thanks for all your help!
