I talked with Andrew a shortly last night about our first meeting. I
suggested that his trip to the NodeSummit in SF might give us a good
topic for our first meeting. We talked about having it in a coffee
shop. He found one in Westport that he thought would be good. I forget
the name. Anyways, at this point I don't want to bother with
sponsorships for food. I'm more interested in getting like minded
people together. I'm hoping for all of the talks to be very technical
and skip all the introduction junk. I always said to myself that if I
was part of creating a user group I'd skip all of the intro mumbo
jumbo. Deep dives are the way to go in my opinion.

I like it.

What if we tentatively plan for Thursday, the second of Feb (ground
hog's day, yay!). Since Andrew wont be back until Thursday this week
and I'm going to be out of town Sunday - Wednesday next week, that
seems like the first time that will work. Then, we can consider first
Thursday of the month as the recurring date.

What TV show's occur on Thursday that we'd be competing with?
Seriously. I'd hate for someone to miss their favorite show. I think
we should look at the other user groups and what days they occur on
before setting a recurring date. I think it's mighty aggressive to
have the first meetup in just over a week. However, if we can get
enough interest there's no good reason to wait any longer! Let's
spread the word. First topic TBA.

Its 2012... if you don't have a DVR or tivo yet, your just not that serious about your TV.

This group is specific enough and advanced enough that I think it'd be awesome to have a few "group code" nights.  A group project based on a guided topic.  That idea might not work if the group gets too big, but always thought it would be cool to have a group generated project site.  Something that we all could help give back to the community.

Maybe...  maybe not?

Sounds like a great idea Russell. That's a great opportunity for us to make this group very technical.

I've been looking at this 52 projects over 52 weeks group. https://github.com/blog/1024-a-new-coding-project-every-week-at-code52

Unfortunately, I have a choir group I sing with that rehearses on
Thursday evenings from 7 to 9pm. For me, Tuesdays work best (because
Michael is at work).

A note is that some churches meet on Wednesday nights. I remember this
coming up on Upfront.

I like the idea of group code projects. I wonder if there's a charity
or group local to Kansas City that would like some work done? I think
it would be cool to give back to the community (and a great way to get
some press). Though, I have to say the one horrible word:
maintainability.

Any night but Tuesday works for me.

I think this would be much more fun as an interactive group not
another group that has somebody walk you through any tutorial you can
find online.

All for the idea of group project(s).

I'll get with some of the other user group organizers and see what
days they meet on.
