Hi,

I'm looking at JoyentCloud right now to gather some information for a client. Just wondering if anyone here is using the Joyent platform in production?

I'd also be interested in hearing what other cloud/PaaS providers people are using for their production Node apps? (And, yes, I partly cringe from using the hyped up phrase 'cloud provider' but it seems inescapable right now).

Cheers,
Nicholas

Hi Nicholas

I have used http://nodejitsu.com/, it was a breeze to set up and deploy. It was for a small app though so I cannot say much about their client service.

Thanks Sebastian. I've had another person immediately recommend them too. Looking now.

I've been using Nodejitsu but the latency is around 300ms for me here in Perth :(

Apparently the data center is only on the West Coast of the US.

Does anyone know of any good PaaS's around Singapore/Sydney? I am thinking of biting the bullet and getting Amazon EC2...

Hey Paul,

Perhaps hop on to #polyhack on IRC and have a chat about this. There was a discussion a while ago about using one of the OSS PaaS solutions on top of AWS but I'm not sure if anyone's doing that yet.

If you don't have complex scalability issues the you should just jump on to AWS Sydney and use it direct. I'm loving the low latency it but I am in NSW.

Running simple node deployments on AWS isn't difficult and if you need help with the more complex stuff then you should bother us on #polyhack cause there a few of us AWS users there.

Hi,

Yeh, we're moving to AWS in Jan/Feb. I'm more interested in IaaS than PaaS generally, so I'm hoping that will be enough for us.

Cheers,
Nick

I'm in Darwin, and AWS syd. is now my best option;
there's no suitable local options, and aws is giving better numbers than my old (adelaide) vps
low latency, low costs. no brainer.
Setting up node was a breeze. its a shame there's no shared dbaas in this region,
but setting up a mongod on another ec2 instance is easy and effective.
