The kiwi package manager that I wrote is no longer actively developed.
I am letting everyone know that
the server will still be up and operational for quite some time,
however npm is "stable" now so I would
recommend that people start utilizing it if it works for them. My
personal projects that are on kiwi
will still get new released for quite a while as well, just letting
everyone know :)

HAHAHAAHAHAHaahahahaAHHAAhahahaaahahHAHAHHAAhahaha....

TJ, you're hilarious. I like the "scare quotes" around "stable".

Everyone, npm is definitely not stable. It's changing often, and has
bugs. But it is actively developed and I'm very interested in making
it work when it breaks, so that I can see what needs fixing.

I suppose you're probably using node because you're ok with that kind of setup.

Is node.js "stable" :P

So far stability hasn't actually kept this community from using stuff :)

I think is a good step in the right direction for node PMs.

That's sad, I just got into nodejs yesterday and going through some
tutorials that use kiwi, as well I think its a very nice way to manage
packages. Kind of like gems.

Why give the package management reigns over to npm? Is there a good
reason?

I just tried using npm and was told: ! Error: n...@0.1.19 not

Why are you discontinuing work on kiwi, and why @Aaron is it a good
idea? I'm new here, and I don't get it...

Worked it out on IRC.

Tonight I learned that sometimes node reports a "+" at the end of the
version, if you somehow have the .git folder, but git describe fails.
Still not sure exactly how one ends up in that situation, but it's now
on my npm todo list.

I think this is a good thing.

Isaac's has been stepping it up with development and we've been planning some really cool new features for npm. TJ will also get to focus more time working on Express and Connect, which are really important projects right now.

Also, I'm pretty sure Victor S just logged into the IRC and got his problem sorted out very quickly. Victor is npm working for you now?

I haven't touched kiwi for quite a while but ya I'd love to focus more
on other projects. Hehe :) by stable I meant working enough for me to
turf kiwi :)

And I had just decided to use kiwi since it works on cygwin and I've
been having trouble with npm....
nice timing :)

Nathan, (and anyone else, really)

Please post an issue when npm doesn't work for you. I know for a fact
that there's some issue with Cygwin, something having to do with there
not being a lib/node dir.

Cygwin support is pretty new in node, and I think most noders don't
use Windows much, so it doesn't get much love. I'll be happy to fix
bugs in npm if I have enough info to do so, but Windows support isn't
a high priority, so I'm not surprised that there are issues.

Yeah, Marak pretty much said it already but with one less major PM around, there's that much more attention that can be given to npm. And yeah, now TJ has more time to continue creating other amazing things for everyone haha.

Cool. Thanks for letting us know what's going on. Glad to see convergence.

What's going on with Express?

no problem. Apparently Isaacs got a bit of inspiration from kiwi at
least so not a total waste :)

I have been working on Express 1.0 which will be quite a bit nicer and
leverage our work on Connect,
it feels sooooo nice to re-write and get rid of my old legacy crap

Did not mean that as an insult. Just meant that what one writes today will contain WTFs for our future selves to find. It is a sign that we are still improving and expanding our skill. The day I look back on old code and see nothing wrong is the day I change careers.
