Strength of TLS checksums

I am trying to find out the strength of TLS checksums used to protect data packets.

What is the strength of these compared to plain TCP checksums?

Is there still a need for end-to-end checksumming by the application to protect against corruption when using TLS?

Your help would be much appreciated.
