Hi everyone,

Taking Dennis' lead in Auckland, I've started a MeetUp group for
Wellington, and have scheduled a 2nd meetup later this month:

* http://www.meetup.com/Node-js-Wellington/
* http://www.meetup.com/Node-js-Wellington/events/127544662/

Hope to see you all there - and I've set this to recur on the 4th
Tuesday of the month every 2 months. If I can get my act together,
I'll see if I can get some Mozilla and/or Persona stickers to bring
along if anyone wants one. :)

Whilst I think this mailing list is a great overall umbrella for New
Zealand, I think it's a good idea to have more localised groups for
actual meetings. Dennis, does that sound ok to you? Anyone else
agree/disagree?

Cheers,
Andy

I agree that localised MeetUps are great, however keeping each in touch and organising events NZ-wide (which is what the Rails guys do) is great as it allows for more interaction within the wider Node.js community here.

For those who are that way inclned, I have also launched a Facebook page, so that's another way of keeping in touch in addition to this Google Group:

Look forward to seeing you there!

Cheers,
Dennis

Also, I've launched a Google+ for those who aren't big fans of Facebook (such as myself):

Would be great to start using these to keep in touch as a community!

Thanks,
Dennis

I think we need to be careful with fragmentation. My personal thought
is that this mailing list is good for the whole NZ community to stay
in touch, and the meetup groups are good for actually arranging local
meetings.

Of course, everyone can choose where they keep in contact with
everyone else and the more the merrier (we all do anyway, on Twitter
or wherever) but I just want to forewarn that we're already thinly
spread around so it would probably make sense to centre around fewer
places rather than more.

Cheers,
Andy

Fair enough. In that case, anyone who plans to attend the Auckland meetings AND wishes to keep in touch outside of the MeetUp format, feel free to give some social love to the aforementioned Facebook and / or Google pages:
I will be administering both of these and, at this stage, we'll limit membership to those who are based in Auckland as there seems to be some serious interest in Node.js in the local developer community. We can look at co-ordinating some sort of NZ-wide forum later on down the track then (or just continue using this Google Group).

Cheers,
Dennis
