Seattle CoderDojo is teaming up with the organizers of the NodeJS meetup, the NodeSchool meetup, and others and putting together a daylong program with room for 100 participants. We'll have 4 large classrooms provided by Amazon.com from 9-5 that day. It's a day-long event in a security controlled building, so we can't do it like an expo. It's come and hack for the day.
What we need to figure out is 6 hours of activities that can be distributed across 20 tables in 4 rooms... as cheaply as possible. We're shooting to raise $5000 in sponsor funds to pay for bots, drinks, and lunch, but $1500 is going to be more likely. And because it's a CoderDojo event, we don't charge admission. Tickets will be 1st come, 1st served with at least 70% reserved for kids and parents.
Right now I have a rudimentary concept of 4 stages:
Stage 1: Servos, motors, and actuators (demos and programming exercise)
Stage 2: Sensors (demo and programming exercise)
Stage 3: Wheeled Bot - assemble and drive a wheeled bot
Stage 4: Rube Goldbots - design a crazy bot and make it work
