Hi there,
just wanted to post here my article about how to make your first Smart-Home rule in Node-RED. I tried to explain step-by-step how Node-RED concept works here. Hope it will be helpful for beginners.

Hi Artyom,

Nice tutorial !

I have also been experimenting with Openhab, until I discovered Node-Red.  And indeed the rules where also for me a bit too obscure.  Moreover the extensibility of the Node-Red dashboard (and the ability to integrate it inside the flow), was another advantage for me to go for Node-Red.

Therefore I personally would add some explanation in your tutorial about the dashboard.
I think Openhab users would like to know how there user interface could be implemented in Node-Red.
Currently the tutorial only uses buttons on the inject nodes, but that has no good WAF factor ;-)
Openhab users have a rather compact but very useful app, so I assume they would like something similar in Node-Red:

Thanks for posting your tutorial!

Kind regards,

Hi Bart. Thanks for reading.
Personally I don' use any dashboard in Node-Red rules, therefore it's hard for me to write tutorial about something, that I don't know.
Another story is that I like modularity, so for a kind of GUI I use different apps, which give better WAF, than NR. For example I use Commandfusion iViewer on my home panels, connected via MQTT to my Home Automation System. Remotely I started to use The Home Remote, because with cloud MQTT broker it provides nice ability to control your home in reliable and secure way over MQTT. Off course both of these apps give ability to create any kinds of GUIs, which dashboard doesn't have.
At some point I will write article about those options too.
Regards
