Which settings file are you editing and does it match the filename Node-RED logs when it starts up?

What setting are you configuring within the file?

I know every time I try to secure a node-red install, I go crazy with it not asking me for a password when I'm done. I've read some people saying that it's a caching issue.  How would I fix that.

I'm absolutely editing the settings.js that node runs on starting.
I'm uncommenting out the code and putting in my credentials.
Yet, I can go to nr locally and remotely and I'm not prompted for a password.
I've rebooted my pi many times.

Thoughts?

It shows settings file as
/home/pi/.node-red/settings.js

That's the one I'm editing

What happens if you do Ctrl+F5 in the browser? That should force a
full page reload (at least that is the case in Firefox) rather than
fetching files from the browser cache.

Dan,

I had also asked what setting are you configuring within the file? Can you share how you are configuring it (by all means replace the username/password with dummy values).

Sorry for the delay. I got frustrated and had to walk away for a while. It turned out that a node.js/node-red update fixed the problem. I didn't change my settings.js at all...it just worked after updating node.  Hmm.  Frustrating. Thanks so much for your time.
