I have a couple of USB-UIRT devices (infrared receivers/transmitters) normally  used for controlling tv's, etc

Is there any one that have seen some kind of (Node-RED) support for this device?

I am using USB UIRT through LIRC. Just install LIRC. Configure and try using it from Linux. When it is working you can use exec node from advanced or node-red-contrib-lirc.

I'd be very interested in hearing how you get on with this as I am hoping to implement something similar.
