are you ging to limit this to "home" automation, or do you envisage "industrial" automation.
we need to track vehicle, gate, door access and it seems to fi that sort of job as well

I think that planned architecture also allows this kind of industry needs quite easily. For example vehicle can be just one "device" in database and if there is somekind of client hw&sw in vehicle which allows to send vehicle locations to server... Anything is possible if you ask me;) . Maybe "home" -term is little too dedicated to project.. Basically architecture allows much more than just home automation..
Of course, you have to remember that the resources used for the project is very limited ( for now at least) , and for example, my priorities in relation to home (and solar-powered cottage) automation ..
