Greetings All!

I have just purchased Nodal. Much experience recording, but little with MIDI sync to an external program.

I am now attempting to MIDI sync Nodal to Reaper, in order to record the Nodal output in synchronization with Reaper.

I am running  Reaper 4.261 on WIndows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

The problem:

When I go to the Document tab in Nodal and look at the Inputs and Outputs under Network/MIDI Sync Inputs and Outputs, Nodal Input and Output are not listed.

Only
USB Keystation 49e under inputs, & Microsoft GS Wavetable Sync and USB Keystation 49e under Outputs.

This has remained the case when I a) restart the DAW; b) Restart Nodal.

In Reaper, Nodal is not being recognized either.

When I go into Options/Preferences/MIDI Devices in Reaper,
only USB Keystation 49e is listed under inputs and Microsoft GS Wavetable Sync and USB Keystation 49e under Outputs.

This is typically the case, and works fine when running VSTis that have been incorporated in to Reaper via the Options/Preferences/Plugins/VST manager.

But as this is different, as it involves syncing with Nodal, rather than installing a plugin, I will need it to recognize Nodal, and Nodal to recognize it.

I know that Nodal works with Reaper, as there are many on the web who have used it just this way.

So--how can I get Nodal Input and Output to appear in Nodal MIDI sync, and in Reaper?

As I am new to connecting a external MIDI program to sync with a DAW, I suspect that I may be missing something here.

Please assist, so that I can record Nodal output in Reaper.

Many thanks and Happy Holidays,

Dr. Alan Lipman

Hi Alan,
I will be adding a video soon on how to do midi sync under windows as a number of people have asked about it.

Jon

Thank you, Jon.

Do you know of a similar software to Midi Yoke, which does not work on Vista 64 bit? Virtual Midi, as noted in the thread below, seems to require quite a bit of configuration, and it would be advantageous to have a Vitsa 64 compatible solution equivalent to more easily used Midi Yoke, if one exists. Loopbe30 creates "ethernet01" inputs and outputs in Nodal, but not Nodal input and output.

Many thanks.

Hi Alan,
Virtual MIDI seems to be the best solution for 64 bit Windows.

hi,

im having the same issue as listed in this post, ive followed the links, and downloaded the loopMIDI software (which contains the virtualMIDI driver - is that right?), but i get no nodal input or nodal output in the documents pane, id like to try and sync nodal to reaper,
ive installed a virtual midi driver and can see the virtual midi in and virtual midi out, in nodal aswell as the associated virtual midi in's and out's in reaper
however, i dont seem to be able to get them to work.. simply setting nodal to receive sync doesnt seem to do anything,
ive tried just about everything i can think of, (setting reaper to provide a sync signal, routing reaper to be the slave, no matter what i do the virtual midi connection doesnt seem to be working..
watching the video about syncing to ableton on the nodal website, it seems there should quite simply be a nodal in and nodal out
what reasons would this nodal in and nodal out not show up ? and using a virtual midi driver how would one go about getting sync to work,
this software seems really great and powerful, and i realise it might not be feasable to provide a comprehensive guide on how to get it working, but a general overview on how to get
the virtual midi routing working would be very much appreciated!

thanks
andrew

i believe ive found the issue, perhaps its a bug on my machine, or something to do with loopMIDI but when i startup and run loopMIDI, nodal and reaper for the first time, i need to delete the default midi port and create a new one, otherwise i get an error in loopMIDI 'feedback loop detected' and nodal either doesnt respond to the sync, or does, but stops and starts over and over, eventually crashing.. (i hadnt setup midi out in nodal yet, so it cant have been an issue with nodal exporting midi to the same port it was receiving from.. ) perhaps i was doing something else silly, but, i couldnt find what it might have been..
aside from this, its all working, great piece of software, really looking forward to getting to know it!

thanks
andrew

Jon, is there a video or tutorial on how to setup sync with for exmple loopMidi or other internal midi?
If I get it working I'd be happy to buy the software.
