I am using the Kontakt 3 sampler on a Vista Business edition laptop.
Having tried both Maple Midi and Loopbe30, both virtual MIDI patchers
for Windows, I cannot get Nodal to drive the Kontakt sampler.

Initially, to work with Nodal, I had that program set up on my Mac and
use a Mac app called Midi Patchbay to route the output of Nodal to a
Midiman 2x2 and on a PC had Maple Midi translate the MIDI input from a
Tascam US-122 to drive the Kontakt sampler. It works!

I tried both Nodal and Kontakt on the Mac (G4 Dual 1.25 GHz Processor
Power PC, 2.5G RAM) but the draw on the CPU was so great that the
audio output was choppy.

I was waiting for the Windows version of Nodal so I could have it and
the sampler on the same laptop (for live performance).

Another clue that it is Nodal that is having the interface problem
with the virtual MIDI router-sampler combination is that I am using
another Windows algorithmic based MIDI program called Artwonk and it
works perfectly through the virtual MIDI interface to the sampler.

Now it is very clear that the problem is Vista. I was able to get the
virtual midi patcher, in the situation I describe below, to work in
WindowsXP. Also, from time to time, Nodal is crashing in Vista,
actually not being able to start.

I think there should be a bug/issue-list of some sort, so we can
document the problems. Until then I guess we just post here. :)

Not sure if this is related to your problem James, but Nodal/Vista
crashes when doing the following:
1. Boot nodal
2. Edit->Preferences->MIDI Output->Maple Midi Out: Port 2
3. Create Node
4. Add Voice Group
5. Set Instrument to output on the same port as above
6. Press play
7. Crash!

I have had some strange issues with Nodal sending Midi on more channels than the specified one. I run 2 instruments on 2 different midi channels of the same port and I get one instrument playing both parts, and the other playing the correct one. I solved it by creating a virtual port with midi pipe, but it seems like it should work the way it's intended. Anyone else have this issue?

Nodal is awesome and I'd love to see it get bigger and better.

I have the same issue on a mac and it's driving me mad. I select
different channels in the instrument but it just sends it all to the
same channels and I'm having trouble separating it even with something
like midipipe. Please please fix this issue it's really vital to be
able to have several different instruments. I use Logic Pro by the way.

I sounds like the Mac problem at least is to do with Logic. I have
successfully used Logic with multiple MIDI channels from Nodal but you
need to change the settings for recording in Logic(use "Auto demix by
channel..."). Logic is difficult to use in this regard.

I should point out that at this stage we can't provide this level of
user support normally but we will try when we can.

Ok it turns out it was Logic. I was actually aware of the "Auto Demix"
setting and had changed it but apparently it goes back off for every
new project, so my bad for not checking that.
