Lusófona University, through Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture and New Technologies (CICANT), is currently conducting the STORYline project (10.54499/2023.11571.PEX), a national project funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). The project's main objective is to explore youth citizenship through intergenerational approaches and digital narratives. You can find out more about the project here.

This project aims to understand the influence of intergenerational relationships, adult role models and digital media on young people's narratives of citizenship. Starting from the Portuguese context, which is characterised by cultural diversity, an ageing population, and digital divides, we aim to explore and reflect on identity formation processes among young people as citizens, as well as new forms of civic participation and engagement.

Against this backdrop, the International Seminar on Intergenerationality and Digital Citizenship is set to take place on 25 March in an online format via Microsoft Teams, from 10:00 to 12:30 (WET). Participation is free of charge, subject to prior registration. The provisional programme is structured as follows:

10:00–10:15 | Opening session

10:15–11:00 | Keynote talk

11:00–11:15 | Break

11:15–12:15 | Round table

12:15–12:30 | Closing session

The panel will address intersectional approaches to age studies, migration and vulnerable populations, lifelong and intergenerational learning, and European policy perspectives on ageing and communication.

Additionally, we are also having the International Webinar "Intergenerational Queer Comrades: Visualizing Aging and Belonging in Mainland China".

It will take place on 27 March and we will be counting on Stefan Schweigler as our keynote speaker.

In this talk, Stefan Schweigler discusses the 2016 short documentary Papa Weifeng and its relational integration into Chinese media activism. This experimental documentary brings together several persons in Mainland China who are addressed as older adults and who present themselves as activist-parents of persons within the LGBTQ+ spectrum. The group discussions and the digital storytelling of director Wei Feng negotiate the aging of parents, the demand for LGBTQ+ rights, and perspectives from the Global South in an intertwined and mutually referential manner. Aging, queerness, and decolonial positions emerge as facets that are intersectionally linked. Intersectionality thus becomes the starting point for an artistic-aesthetic formation of critical theory, which is rendered politically productive by the participants in the form of intergenerational and digital activism.

The programme will start at 2pm (WET).

Participation in the seminar is free of charge, but registration is required. People may register using the following link: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/HKunRWzdTF
