I'm trying to get my AoE2:HD working but everytime I try and open it through steam I get an error with my steam_api.dll. I've trying reverifying my game files and it doesn't work. I'm pretty sure I only need this file, would it be possible if someone were able to PM me their copy of the AOE2:HD steam api dll? I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

Has anyone been able to get Age of Empires 1: Definitive edition working with this? I copied the steam game files from my main pc to another, replaced the steam api dll file with the goldberg one and added the steamappid text file as well as the steam interfaces just incase and the game starts up, but it says a third party process has messed with your game or something like that, and it doesn't lete click anything. Shortly after it dissapear and i am able to play single player. The multiplayer and LAN tabs are greyed out so the whole purpose of this goes straight out the window. Is there anything special i must do that I'm not doing to make LAN work with the emulator? I am of course using the latest version of the emulator and the game.

Errors related to steam_api.dll can arise for a few different different reasons. For instance, a faulty application, steam_api.dll has been deleted or misplaced, corrupted by malicious software present on your PC or a damaged Windows registry.

In the vast majority of cases, the solution is to properly reinstall steam_api.dll on your PC, to the Windows system folder. Alternatively, some programs, notably PC games, require that the DLL file is placed in the game/application installation folder.

you should be able to fix the issue simply by reinstalling steam since the dll files should be related to steam. uninstall the game and steam and then reinstall steam and then the game through the steam library.

Both tier0_s.dll and vstdlib_s.dll files are only required when explicitly linking against them using the "-force_steamclient_link" flag for dedicated server builds. Client builds never need these files.

All games using the Steam Online Subsystem must have a valid application ID because the Steamworks API won't initialize if it doesn't know your application's Steam App ID.Before initializing Steam, UE4 will generate steam_appid.txt (during a graceful shutdown of the engine, UE4 deletes this file). It's important to note that steam_appid.txt must be located in the same directory as your application's executable file because Steam will look for the text file in the current working directory.Additionally, the file should not be included in any Steam images.

If you open steam_appid.txt, you'll see a SteamDevAppId entry, which is a field that hints your application's ID to Steam. This makes it unnecessary to launch the game using the Steam client (although it must be running).

Do not download steam.dll from a "DLL download" website. There are many reasons why downloading a DLL file like that is a bad idea. If you need a copy of this file, it's best to obtain it from its original, legitimate source. If you've already downloaded it, remove it immediately from wherever you put it, and continue with these steps.

All the information on your hard drive will be erased during a clean install. Make sure you've made the best attempt possible to fix the steam.dll error using a troubleshooting step prior to this one.
