Our international residency program is open to all artists working in photography or image-based media, from any country. Applications must be submitted by the posted deadline. Applicants will receive an e-mail from SlideRoom confirming that we have received an application. While submissions are open throughout the year, our main selection committee review concludes in the late fall and notifications will be sent no later than December of each year. Please be patient in this process. We will contact you should we need more information, and to notify you of your application status when the time comes.

Light Work will always be an impactful force in the photography community, the community of Syracuse, and to the history of the medium. I am very honored and thankful to have participated in this residency program and know that it will continue to have a positive effect on those who are selected in the future. I learned and grew exponentially due to the care of the entire staff in regards to accommodations, facilities, one-on-one attention, and management of the program. This is the most important photography residency due to the patience, support, and community it provides.

Our customers requested a cleanser that made light work of heavy-duty make-up. The brief? Gentle on skin without compromising on efficacy, no eye-stinging, oh, and no palm oil please. This Rosehip cleansing oil glides over skin, lifting away every kind of impurity. Even stubborn waterproof mascara is politely sent packing.

Shake before use. Massage two to three pumps of our Rosehip Cleansing Oil into dry skin and along the lash line to dissolve make-up and daily build-up. Add a few drops of water to create a light milk, then rinse thoroughly with water to remove.

Dear friends, I will be honest and say that these last couple of days have been a whirlwind due to my first-ever healing retreat! The good news is that we had an incredible time hosting the retreat at Teaism Tea Shop with our roster of speakers. I will post a longer recap down the road... For now, I wanted to share one thought from the retreat: we need to balance shadow work with light work.

If you are unfamiliar with these terms, you can think of shadow work as an umbrella term for unpacking past traumas, limiting beliefs and unhealthy mindsets. On the other hand, light work prioritizes spiritual and emotional growth and development through a positive and uplifting lens. Consider these two concepts one another's yin and yang.

Given that our social conditioning has a bias against talking about weakness, mental health and "woo woo" New Age-y healing, it is important for us to create dedicated spaces for shadow work. That said, as I watched my retreat attendees get to know one another and our speakers--especially during our mindfulness improv workshop with Tandra Turner and our outdoor somatic nature guide with Inja Lin--I couldn't help but marvel at the light work being facilitated.

Take four deep breaths in and out Ask yourself what is draining you and what sort of shadow work you may have to do related to this (e.g., "I keep self-sabotaging myself because of my fear of failure") Take another four deep breaths in and out and notice where there is tension in your body; observe the thoughts that may be surfacing Then, ask yourself what kind of light work may be a good supplement to the shadow work (e.g., "I will continue to do X hobby, which helps me feel confident about my capabilities") Visualize yourself doing the light work and focus on how your mind and body will feel during and after the light work Take another four deep breaths and notice how your body and spirit are feeling after this visualization exercise

To close out this short newsletter post, I want to reflect on energy work as a reiki practitioner. When I work with my clients, I try to not only send out negative, heavy and "shadow" energy... I also call in expansive, light-hearted energy to heal and support my clients after we have pushed out the undesired energy from their bodies and their "spirit bodies." My retreat reminded me that I need to apply this methodology of shadow vs. light work as an event organizer and facilitator so there is levity against the gravity of the work.

I look forward to sharing more detailed recaps from my retreat with you over the next couple of weeks. For now, I hope this note helped you think about where you are in your own journey of shadow and light work.

PS Friendly heads up that I will be out of pocket on a short hiatus following 1) my retreat and 2) contributing to a client's executive team retreat this week and next week. I look forward to reconnecting after my break. You can book time on my calendar for coaching, healing and consulting work after that period. I hope you are also treating yourself well as we wrap up this summer!

In life there is good and bad, light and dark, which within each of us is the same. Every person has dark and light within them, and it is important for these two aspects of ourselves to become and remain balanced. Having this balance allows us to fully connect with ourselves on a deeper level. If you are wanting to grow and accept all parts of yourself, light and shadow work can help you balance and connect both sides of yourself.

The theory that every person has light and dark within them refers to the idea that there are both good and bad (or less desirable) aspects to each of our subconsciouses. When referring to the light aspects of our personalities and selves, we are referring to the more positive aspects of ourselves. These aspects can be our conscious dreams, our desires, our motivations, etc.

Practicing light work is important to our well being because it allows our positive attributes to shine through. Doing light work is positive and uplifting not only for ourselves, but also for others around us. When we focus on expanding our positive attributes, we make ourselves better and ultimately are better friends, lovers, and family members.

Shadow work is important because it allows us to connect with forgotten or unknown parts of our subconsciousness, even the parts that might not be as desirable. However, in order to become fully whole and at peace with ourselves we have to accept all parts of ourselves. Practicing shadow work helps us to bring these darker aspects of ourselves into the light so that we can accept them and use them to our best ability to create a harmonious life.

Light and shadow work can be challenging at first, but the end result can be very beneficial for not only yourself, but those around you. When beginning light and shadow work it can seem intimidating, but getting started is the first step to bettering yourself and becoming more in tune with yourself. Once you start light and shadow work, it is important to remember your intentions. If you want to get the most out of your light and shadow work, then you need to put into your shadow and light work what you want to get out of it. Use this quick guide to help you get started on your light and shadow work journey.
