Posts: 3848 Rock River - Sackett Jr. - HoundsWhat can you tell me about Frank Giddings line of dogs? Has anyone here ever dealt with him? Hunted with him and the dogs?

I ask because I have a double Sackett Jr. bred female and I'm looking to make a cross with her possibly next year. I heard Mr. Giddings has a nice young male coming on, as well as Cord. And so I'm tossing around ideas and even if I don't go this route it would be great to hear more about this line since I have three hounds that go back to the Rock River blood.

Anyone care to share thier thoughts, dealings, anything related to the Rock River line?

(Do Not turn this thread into a "breed her to this dog". I just want to know about Frank Giddings and his line.

Thanks! And if you don't feel like posting just toss me a PM or E-mail!

Posts: 6540 Frank is a coon hunters coon hunter. I don't know anyone who hunts as hard as Frank. I do not believe that Cord is still at public stud.

I could get on here and go one and on, but I will suggest what I believe Frank would suggest. Take the time to make the trip to Michigan and hunt with him. It will be a worth while trip.

Christy is right the word I have most oftened used to describe Sackett dogs is balance. Some may try to tell you tell are not cold nosed dogs, but most here in Michigan are top track dogs.

Posts: 1042 Cord is an excellent hound. He re-produces himself if not a little better.

Cords offspring that I know have a headfull of sense, not wild eyed and crazy. Start young and HUNT TO PLEASE THEIR OWNERS. They hunt looking for coon, are good tree dogs and are easy to handle.

If you're looking for a dog that will get a mile deep before he puts his nose to the ground looking for scent look elsewhere.

I've heard that Cord is sterile, but don't have personal knowledge about that.

Frank is a tuff man that hunts more than anybody I ever knew, He demands a tuff hound and he keeps tuff hounds. Not much more I can say other than if possible you should take a trip up there and hunt with Frank. You will not only see dogs that can tree coons but you'll be in the woods with a true legend of this sport.

Posts: 2023 I have hunted with Frank and several of his dogs, he is the hardest hunter I have ever known and he will show you any dog he has at his place. HE is a great guy and willing to help anyone he can. Extremely knowledgeable about hounds and hunting. The best advice is to load up and go hunt with Frank and his dogs and form your own opinion. I have hunted twice with the Max dog he has right now and I really like him. Goodluck and happy hunting.

Posts: 515 I agree with the other guys, drive to Frank's and go hunting with him, you won't be disappointed. This line is balanced with good mouths and they seem to be very smart. I have a NTCH/2 wins off of Cord and I am well pleased with him. There are 2 females near me out of different dams that are also well balanced and are NTCH. Hope this helps.

Posts: 383 Hunting with FrankI hunt with Frank probably as much as anybody and the Max dog is a COON treeing machine. I have a Sackett Jr bred male dog goes back to Hammering Earl throught Hammering Buckwheat. We have bred some females to both Max and Primer and we will know by late summer what these two will throw. Give Frank a call and come hunt with Max we are still Treeing coon in this weather.
