VIVA VOSKAT ( o) (o ) 1998
Hello, Voskat, I know you like CM, but I didn't know you like Norwegians
players, too. I'm just courius, how man football newsgroup do you subscribe
to and why this interest for Norwegian footballers? I mean there are no
other nations in the Premier League that got more reserves than Norway. The
reason why Norwegians are fascinated by English football is that one of the
Saturday matches have been televised almost every Saturday in the season
since 1964 (or something like that). It's always fun to watch English
football because you can see that they give everything and sacrifice
themselves for their team (at least 10 years ago). If it was Dutch football
that were televised every Saturday, I think we would have the same interest
for Dutch football as we have for English football today (and if Dutch
football were 10 times better). What's your favorite player, Norwegian and
English? My personal favorites are Baardsen (yes, a goalie) and Redknapp. I
reckon you know Hallvard Thoresen, your favorite team is PSV, right? By the
way, are you looking forward to CM3 as much as I am?
Morten
I'm subscribed to alt.champ-man, alt.games.soccer, be.sport.football
(Belgian football), nl.sport.voetbal (Dutch), no.sport.fotball,
pt.desporto.futebol (Portuguese) and uk.sport.football. (Phew!)
And I just like the Norwegian style (Danish as well) of play. It's much like
classic English play (from what I've seen so far), but a bit ...um...
fresher! Is there a lot of rough play in your competition or is it more laid
back?
>I mean there are no other nations in the Premier League that got more
reserves than Norway.
Does the Norwegian national team play in the Premier League??? Blimey. :)

Well, English football is fun to watch. But if you watch a good match over
here, you'll see that the Dutch game is very tactical. I can't be completely
objective, of course, but I find Dutch football very entertaining as well.
>What's your favorite player, Norwegian and English? My personal favorites

> (yes, a goalie) and Redknapp.
My fave Norwegian, I think, is still Solskjaer. But I'd love to see more of
Erik Nevland before I make a final judgement. And my favourite English
player would have to be Gary Neville. So.... I think you can guess my
favourite English team... :)
> I reckon you know Hallvard Thoresen, your favorite team is PSV, right? By

Thoresen? He's from before my time, I'm afraid. I'm just 20. Anyway, PSV
have a tendency to buy Brazilian/Belgian/Danish players these days...
What I miss in Norwegian football is speed and people yelling for their
team. In Norway most people just sit at on their seat and applause each time
your team has scored.
>>I mean there are no other nations in the Premier League that got more
>reserves than Norway.
>Does the Norwegian national team play in the Premier League??? Blimey. :)
Maybe I expressed this a bit wrong, but I'm sure you know what I mean. Just
to make you sure of this: No, the Norwegian national team does not play in
Premier League, only the players that plays on the national team which is
mostly reserves for their clubs.

I must admit that I don't know very much about Dutch football, I've only
seen some Dutch team in the European cup.

Your favorite English team? That's a hard one, but I guess Man Utd,
personally I can't stand them and Redknapp is my favorite player. (I wonder
what my favorite team might be).

>Thoresen played for PSV in the early and mid 80s. I wonder who is gonna be
the next Brazilian star at PSV, I mean they bought Romario and Ronaldo,
who'll be the next?
Hmm. Yeah, I've never seen a Norwegian player accelerating a la Michael
Owen/Ronaldo. Here at PSV we've got two extremely fast wingers. They're
Joonas Kolkka from Finland and Dennis Rommedahl from Denmark. So maybe you
should try and catch up with your neighbours. :)

Tore Andre Flo springs to mind.
>I must admit that I don't know very much about Dutch football, I've only

Yes. European football is very frustrating for us. Especially PSV. In BOTH
games against Kaiserslautern we were robbed by the referees. We lost both
games, due to huge blunders by the ref. Otherwise we'd be cruising in the
quarter finals now. This season has to be the unluckiest season ever for
PSV. (Sigh)
>Your favorite English team? That's a hard one, but I guess Man Utd,
>personally I can't stand them and Redknapp is my favorite player. (I wonder
>what my favorite team might be).
Correct. Man Utd's my club in England. But I admire Liverpool for giving
young players a chance as well. (I absolutely hate Chelsea) Oh, and now that
you've mentioned Baardsen: I like Spurs as well.
>Thoresen played for PSV in the early and mid 80s. I wonder who is gonna be
>the next Brazilian star at PSV, I mean they bought Romario and Ronaldo,
>who'll be the next?
Well, have you noticed the new right back/midfielder in the Brazil squad?
He's called Vampeta and he's become hugely popular in Brazil this year.
Guess where he played last season? Yup, PSV Eindhoven.
Oh, and watch out for Claudio, the next young Brazilian striker. He was
given a few chances last season. In the game against Fortuna Sittard (10-0),
he came on as a substitute and scored twice in about five minutes!
I think Flo is more of an exception, but he didn't start very many matches
before Casiraghi got injured, I think Vialli won't use Flo from start when
Casiraghi is available because Flo is the type of guy that don't want make
any noise, like Laudrup did.

It must be very frustrating when you lose for the Norwegian team Brann. I
haven't seen the Kaiserslautern matches, but I can imagine it must be very
frustrating. By the way, as a PSV fans, do you hate Ajax? Is it like in
Norway that even if you really hate a norwegian team, you will be happy if
they are doing a great season in Europe.
>Correct. Man Utd's my club in England. But I admire Liverpool for giving

I don't like Man Utd, but I must admit I admire their youth work and for
giving young players a chance, I think Man Utd is very important club for
England, many young players that will play for England has been "raised" in
Man Utd. I have nothing against Chelsea, I think they are an exciting team,
but I totally disagree about how things work at Chelsea, not many young
players has a fair chance to develop in Chelsea. I like Spurs because they
concead a lot of goals (at least they used to) and because of that fun to
watch. What about Arsenal, there are a couple of Dutch players in that club,
but they are also one of Man Utd greatest rivals.

To be totally honest, I've never heard of these players, but I have the
feeling that I will, I guess Claudio will be the next Ronaldo. Have you ever
heard of Norwegian players like Daniel Berg Hestad, John Carew or the great
Norwegian player Roy Wassberg?
Do you know when CM3 will be released?
(just kidding)
Morten
Don't even mention Brann Bergen!! One of the blackest pages in the history
of PSV...
>haven't seen the Kaiserslautern matches, but I can imagine it must be very
In the 1st game, it was 1-1 with about ten minutes to go. Kaiserslautern
striker Rische tries to head the ball in from a corner, but PSV keeper
Waterreus keeps it out with a brilliant reflex. The linesman didn't make a
goal out of it. That is, until the Germans crowded in front of the Frenchman
and started yelling at him. All of a sudden the linesman makes a 180 degree
turn and awards the goal to the Germans, to the astonishment of everyone
present...
In the away game, Dutch topscorer van Nistelrooij made it 1-0 and we totally
played the Germans off the pitch. But after half an hour there followed a
German outbreak, which forced our second keeper Lodewijks (Waterreus was
suspended) to use his hands on the edge of the box. The ref was merciless
and gave Lodewijks the red card, where a yellow would have been a lot more
fitting. So our 20-year old youth keeper Wilburt Need took his place. Even
though, young Need had only played one game in the first team last season,
he did very well. But captain Luc Nilis had to leave to make room for him,
and the Germans overpowered us in the last 30 minutes, making it 3-1. Exit
PSV.
>frustrating. By the way, as a PSV fans, do you hate Ajax? Is it like in
>Norway that even if you really hate a norwegian team, you will be happy if
>they are doing a great season in Europe.
I totally hate Ajax, yes, and I laughed loudly and evilly when Croatia
Zagreb got the better of them two weeks back. But most people support any
Dutch team that goes European, yes.
>watch. What about Arsenal, there are a couple of Dutch players in that
club,
>but they are also one of Man Utd greatest rivals.
Even the most stubborn Arsenal-hater can't deny the beauty of Bergkamp's
actions last season, including me.
>To be totally honest, I've never heard of these players, but I have the

ever
Not so sure of that, but he's a very good striker nevertheless. But right
now we've got Nilis and van Nistelrooij up front, so he hasn't got a chance
yet this season.
>heard of Norwegian players like Daniel Berg Hestad, John Carew or the great

Vaguely.....
I thought it was quite fun...

That linesman shouldn't even be allowed to see look at a football pitch. By
the way have you seen some pictures about the Bjørnebye incident in
Slovenia. The linesman raised his hand and indicated that the ball was NOT
out, Bjørnebye thought the ball was out, the player from Slovenia goes
around Bjørnebye crosses the ball in front of the goal and Slovenia scores
on a header. Luckily Norway won the match 2-1.

That's something that could happen, but shoudn't happen. Some referess may
overreact in some situations. I think maybe that happened here, too bad for
PSV.

I agree, I hate Arsenal, but Bergkamp is an excellent player I'm afraid,
luckily he has some bad temper and is suspended once in a while.

Watch out for Daniel Berg Hestad, he is gonna be the best Norwegian
midfielder in the future, Carew is even better than Flo and Solskjær and has
potential to be the greatest striker ever in Norway. Roy Wassberg, well, you
won't probably even hear about him, he played in a small club in Greece I
even can't remember the name of for several years, he has moved back to
Bergen, and plays for Brann now (you remember Brann, right)
*humre* :)

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean there isn't someone out to get me.

Sadly, PSV didn't win the game. The refs are ass-fucking PSV badly this
season.
>Who is the top goalscorer in the Dutch League?
Dutch topscorers
1. Ruud van Nistelrooij (PSV) 14
2. Nikos Machlas (Vitesse) 12
3. Luc Nilis (PSV) 11

I have heard of Berg Hestad and Carew, but I've never heard of the Wassberg
guy. Where do Berg Hestad and Carew play now?
I've heard a some great things about Machlas, is he as great as people says
like in the CM group?

Berg Hestad plays for Molde and Carew plays for Vålerenga, Carew is the
reason why Vålerenga has made it to the quarterfinal in the cup winners cup
and he is only 18 (I think). Molde has always developed fine players, some
of them are Rudi, Rekdal and Solskjær. I think that players like Berg
Hestad, Andersen and Lund will all go to England within the next 2 years,
keep an eye for these names. Maybe in a 5-10 years you will see a whole team
of former Molde players in the Premier League who not only have been bought
from Molde, but also grown and developed in Molde.
By the way have you bought some football games like World Cup 98, FIFA 98/99
or something like that?
Well, I did a lot of Machlas-promotion over there actually. I think he is of
world class when he's within the box.
>keep an eye for these names. Maybe in a 5-10 years you will see a whole

Yeah, credit to Molde. I feel kind of protective towards ENglish &
Scandinavian football. A lot of Dutch people are taking the piss out of
it... Ignorant fools.
>By the way have you bought some football games like World Cup 98, FIFA
98/99

Me & my brother have got all the FIFA games (from FIFA International Soccer
(1995) all the way to World Cup 98). We did ask FIFA 99 for Sinterklaas, our
version of Santa Claus, on 5 December. Do you celebrate it or is it a
completely Dutch tradition?
> Does the Norwegian national team play in the Premier League??? Blimey. :)
Well, most of the players do anyway.

More importantly Flo is the kind of type that does not speak Italian,
like Casiraghi, Zola and Vialli do :-)
Anyway Casiraghi is out for a year, so let's not care about what happens
that far into the future.
Berg Hestad plays for Molde, runner-ups to Rosenborg in the Norwegian
Premier League this year.
As for Carew he plays for Valerenga, the club that is now coached by ex
national coach Egil "Drillo" Olsen. They were about to be relegated from
the top division, but after Drillo took over they ended up around the
middle of the table and are now in the quarter finals of the cup winner
cup.
I've never seen him before, maybe he will go to PL some day...

I've never heard of such a thing, it's just another boring working day,
actually I've never heard of "Sinterklaas". The only thing besides Christmas
and the four Sundays before Christmas we celebrate is St. Lucia which is 13
December.
FIFA 95, it must have been great when it was released, its not that many
years since it was released, I remember when I bought my first computer, the
computer had 20 MB harddrive and that was huge. Today you can't even buy a
game that's less than 100 MB.
PL?

I think this Dutch generation isn't as fertile as the one from the late
80's/early 90's. PSV have lots of young talented players, both Dutch and
from abroad. Some names to look out for are Godwin Attram (Ghana's number
one striker in a few years and one of the greatest talents in the world),
Arnold Bruggink (yesterday, he finally got a bit of play in the 1st squad
again and he scored the winning goal against NAC within two minutes!!) and
Theo Lucius (great right-back/midfielder, the next Aron Winter if he keeps
on developing).

Rubbish.
