As with most things even Usenet must pass, it seems. The Scandinavian
Mac newsgroups, which have been my main reason for using MacSOUP for the
last ten years or so, are dying. The Swedish one left us a number of
years back, and now the Norwegian one (no.it.os.mac.diverse, aka
"niomd") is following suit - 0 postings for weeks on end. Clearly on its
deathbed, and most discussions now take place in FB groups for better or
worse. The Danish group (dk.edb.mac) is still alive, but more and more
dominated by the same old-timers reiterating the same issues, and a
sprinkling of newbies that don't get the answers they would like and
leave again.

It has been a good time on Usenet. The first years back in the nineties
I used Newswatcher and its siblings, but for a number of years now it
has been MacSOUP. It was and is a great program for what it does, and
very importantly too for what it does not (specifically, concentrating
on text and excluding the binary pitfalls). The thread view goes without
mention - great, and peerless. MacSOUP is an old friend and I will be
sad to see it go. Thanks for making it, developing it and maintaining
it, and for unparallelled support on the way.

I will be on news as long as my server fee still lasts - a few more
months, but then it is over for me.
