Hi all!
I have discovered a irritating 'bug' or a wrong setup at my providers email
server. The problem only occure with email *to* me. It's no problem on e-mail
sent from me, or on any news messages.
The result of this 'bug' is a very messy output in my news/mail reader.
This is not a configuration problem with my machine. I changed ISP a couple
of days ago and the problem is only with their POP/SMTP server.
The problem is as follows:
Normally all message headers starts with a "Message-ID", but on e-mail *to*
me the "Message-" is replaced with a TABulator, like this:
---
id: <SP775633> <blah>
[rest of header ok]
---
instead of (as it should be)
---
Message-id: <SP775633> <blah>
[rest of header ok]
---
My news/mail reader formats this as:
From: <empty>
To: all
Date: 31-Jan-97, 16:00:00
Subj: <empty>
since it can't recognice the message header. All info are intact exept the
keyword "Message-" and I have to manually type in correct reply address etc.
where fields are empty. I run the same reader program against another mail
server which is ok, but I loose access to this server in a couple of days.
Do someone know what causes this problem ? I am not deep into Unix (which
they run) and would like to be able to tell them what to do with this
problem. I have a hard time explaining the problem to them.
Just for the record: I have been involved with many Internet setups and I
*know* for certain that the problem is not here locally. I know there is
something wrong at the ISP's setup somewhere.
Please help!
Regards,
