Hi all!

First, I hope you won't be too offended for me posting this message in the
wrong newsgroup or for me being "lazy" or just NORWEGIAN... but I need some
assistance here!

A little background info:
I am a Norwegian third year BSc(Hons) Information Technology student at the
University of Salford in Manchester, United Kingdom.

During the last year of this course the students are expected to write a
dissertation on a subject that somehow is related to the course and degree.

At the moment, the dissertation title is "Electronic Warfare: Securing
Communication Lines using Information Technology." - but the title may
change as I work may way through the writing...

From the title it should be quite obvious what I am going to write about -
but to make it fool-proof (I hope) :

Electronic warfare; security risks, ways of protecting communication lines
etc, breaking into and/or detection of break-ins and/or protection of and
issues related to:

- encryption algorithms (strengths and weaknesses)

- computer systems/networks (problems, security risks/holes, setting up a
secure network etc)

- communication lines (both cable and wireless) and/or comms equipment

- physical problems (like TEMPEST)

- other related issues (I need ideas here)

I have not quite decided on if I should take a "White Hat" or "Black Hat"
approach to this - any suggestion is welcome - but as I see myself in a
CompSec company/organisation setting (I have a military AND a
computer/network background) in a few years I guess both ways can be
appliccable.

I *am* roaming the Internet for information, but even with a fast connection
and hours and hours on the Internet, there is lots of information to be
missed.

SO:
If you have *any* suggestions/ideas I could take use of, persons or
organisations to contact, websites to visit, books to read - the lot,
really - I would appreciate it a lot if you could pass it on to me!!

To send me information on these matters, please use my email address:

war...@kenm.com

As I said, I am a student - and as such, I don't have a budget other than my
"pocket money" - so I can't promise any big rewards for this - but you
should know that I will be very grateful for your time. (Did that make you
feel better?)

Finally, this is NOT an attempt to learn to hack or to gain unauthorised
access to anything but a legitimate gathering of information for a
legitimate dissertation.

If you need confirmation of this, you can have the email addresses to my
supervisor and to the administration at my faculty.

Again, the address to send information to is : war...@kenm.com

Addresses to contact me on: ke...@kenm.com or
k.m.m...@student.salford.ac.uk

Thank you for your time and hopefully, information!

Yahoo has a resource link to a manifesto called the cypheronomicon, which
has basically nothing in the line of actual great crypto info but has tons
as far as crypto politics opinions, which I assume is what you mean.

Good luck on your paper, I wish the Internet was as big as it is now when I was
going to school (15 years ago). We only had UUCP connections and very few news
groups.
