Hi Kevin,

Now iPhone SDK is officially out, first financial applications are
available in App Store. But no MoneyWell software :(

As you said several times you have some idea for an iPhone version,
could you please give an update about your plan (schedule, features,
etc.).

Thanks :)

Sylvain,

Sorry that we couldn't make the iPhone App Store launch. The 1.4
release has been very high on our list because of the direct
connection to banks. As soon as that is out, our iPhone version will
move forward.

The trick with MoneyWell Mobile is that we are going to sync with your
desktop MoneyWell and that is a bit more intense that iPhone apps that
stand alone. More features will be discussed as we finalize them.

Peace,

Kevin,

You don't have to be sorry because you miss the launch of AppStore. I
definitely (and I guess everybody will) prefer wait for a working and
stable iPhone version.

Thanks.

Quick question: You're going to set up MoneyWell Mobile to sync w/the
desktop app, but will it have the ability to sync over the Cloud as
well?

Hi Chris,

Actually, syncing over the cloud is the only way we can do it. There
is no direct syncing with a docked iPhone.

I know you don't want to lead people on, but could you tell us
"approximately" how close MoneyWell for the iPhone is? Is it a month,
6-months, a year? I don't mind waiting, its the not knowing that's
killing me.

Thanks!

Daniel,

I wish I could give a solid date, but it depends on a few issues.
First we need to finish beta testing 1.4 and then we'll work on the
iPhone version. There are also sync services that need to be finished.
If we can get 1.4 out by the end of August then the MoneyWell Mobile
will ship later this year.

There are some rummers that there will be a beta App store soon that
is limited to a certain # of people per app.

If this ends up being true I would love to get on your beta list.

As the update to this article says, there is already a way for iPhone
developers to run a beta with up to 100 users and Apple has provided
this from the start. We will make use of this testing method and I'll
post a request for testers on our user forum just like I did with
MoneyWell 1.4. Thanks.

Hi Kevin,

You can count me in on the iPhone beta also my Wife and I have iPhones
and I would love to see multiple device syncing over the air with this
Im sure I dont have to tell you how nice it would be to see it right
in my bucket when She spent somthing or when I did for that matter. As
for syncing iPhones apps I think OmniFocus is proabley the best it
syncs using idisk and webdav I say take a look at it and the desktop
counterpart to see how they intagrate omnigroup really did a great
job.

Super cool bounes p.s.
How cool would it be memerized transactions based on location so when
im spending a million dollars at Costco it would know and fill in the
info.

Thanks Arron Mabrey
Sent form my iPhone :)

Thanks Aaron,

My main concern with syncing is privacy. I'm hesitant to keep customer
financial data on our web servers and I'd rather have Apple be the
safe house (via MobileMe) or keep the syncing more localized
(Bonjour). We are investigating various options. One way or another,
it will be very secure.

That may need to wait for a 2.0 release of MoneyWell Mobile. ;)

I would really prefer synching over wifi (using Bonjour to ease the
process). Not everyone wants to subscribe to MobileMe or have access
to a webdav server.

By the way, I am an iPhone developer and Moneywell user. Apple has
provided us with ways to use up to a hundred provisioning devices, but
the process to get your device approved are not so trivial for the
average user. So when you need a tester, I'd love to help.

It would be nice to have a choice of MobileMe (for syncing anywhere)
or Bonjour (to sync locally). Could set it up in preferences.

Hi Kevin,
I dont want an iPhone, but I am curious about using the next iPod
Touch as a PDA-like device with all the apps and so on. Does that mean
that it is impossible to use the iPod Touch to sync MoneyWell data?
How will this work out?
Which plans do you have for the iPod Touch users? :)

Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,

For most applications, the iPod Touch works just as well as the
iPhone. In the case of MoneyWell Mobile, we should have no problem
supporting the Touch with Bonjour syncing. More details will appear
after we get closer to a release date.

Daniel,

We will try to make the syncing flexible but we are limited to the
methods Apple allows. We are also concerned about security and will do
whatever it takes to make sure your financial data is not exposed.
Thanks.

I would have a *very strong* preference to enable syncing via
either MobileMe or webdav, especially webdav. A webdav server comes
with your mac so it is an inexpensive option for everybody. I will
also second the motion to omnifocus' lead. I use webdav syncing
between by iPod Touch and my Powerbook and it works seamlessly.

By the way, I just discovered Moneywell recently when looking for a
replacement for my horrid Quicken. I think I found it! Cheers.
