to NetNewsWire Lite for Macintosh
Over the past 6weeks, NNW has gradually become slower and slower:
switching from one feed or group to another one would take 1~2
minutes, with activity monitor reporting 'application has stopped
responding' [*] and lots of noise coming from the HD. This eventually
made the whole computer slower (and NNW certainly very hard to use).
Yesterday, I cleaned out all NNW related caches (rm ~/Library/Caches/
com.ranchero.NetNewsWireLite4/Cache.db and rm ~/Library/Caches/
NetNewsWire Lite/...) and I did a 'sqlite vacuum' on ~/Library/
Application Support/NetNewsWire Lite/Articles
'Articles' was 194.3Mb before, and 136.2Mb after the sqlite vacuum.
Both actions together made NNW responsive again. I'm not sure which
one of the two was more effective.
I have about 200 feeds, some of which has no or minimal activity, some
are quite active (ex. BBC news, Gecko & WebKit bugzilla feeds).
[*] I took a sample while NNW was in that state, but I seem to have
misplaced it :-( sorry about that.
