Nigeria under Buhari: a new dawn? This event will be webcast live. To access the webcast visit the ISS homepage on 13 April 2015 from 13h45.
The March 2015 presidential election in Nigeria will be remembered as the most remarkable since independence in 1960. Not only was this election the most transparent in Nigeria's history, but for the first time the incumbent, Goodluck Jonathan, openly conceded defeat to his opponent, Muhammadu Buhari.
Although the poll is billed as evidence that the era of turbulent and disputed elections has given way to a democratic awakening, the country faces numerous economic, developmental and security challenges.
This seminar will interrogate the implications of the election for democracy, politics and economic growth in Nigeria, and consider the challenges facing the country's new leadership.
