Welcome to BRI (Buffalo Research Institute) http://www.bri.gop.pk/
BRI is an institution for research based development of buffalo. It is established under a 3
years development scheme funded through ASPL-II and functioning since October, 2005. Its
spanned over an area of 3010 acres has 6 divisions, 3 buffalo farms and 10 project districts
for registration and milk recording of buffaloes under Progeny Testing Program.
Mission
Increase income of farmers by raising unit productivity of buffaloes through research based
applications in all areas of its reproduction & production
Focused Area
1. Production of progeny tested bulls for their maximum use in breeding.
2. Enhancing reproductive efficiency – use of Ultrasound for detection of early pregnancy –
Estimation P4 & E2 through ELIZA.
3. Embryo Transfer
4. Genetic Characterization of Nili-Ravi Buffalo
5. Mechanization in Agri. & Dairy Operations (use of fodder cutter, machine
milking of buffaloes).
6 . Buffalo Meat Production – Feedlot fattening – On Farm/Off Farm.
7. Training farmers at their doorsteps.
8. Persuation of farmers through Buffalo Mela/Bull Show/Farmer Day.

Message (Chief Research Officer )
BRI has been established at Pattoki (Punjab) Pakistan under a 3 year development project funded through ASPL-II. It has started functioning since October, 2005. The institute is mandated for the development of buffalo through research based applications on all aspects of its reproduction and production. The institute is characterized in having research facilities in areas of; genetics, breeding, reproduction, nutrition, health besides 3 buffalo farms located at LES,, Bhunikey District Kasur, LES, Chak Katora District Bahawalpur and LES, Haroonabad District Bahawalnagar and 60 out reach focal points for registration of
15000 buffaloes raised by the private breeders and their milk recording under progeny testing program in 10 districts of Punjab; Kasur, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, M.B.Din, Faisalabad, T.T.Singh, Bahawalnagar, Vehari and Pakpattan. Besides research in enhancing reproductive and productive performance of buffalo, the institute is engaged in capacity building of its registered breeders through training at their nearest focal point by imparting basic skills in buffalo management, dairying, beef production and motivating for mechanized dairy and agricultural operations.
The institute is actively collaborating with the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore, Remount & Veterinary Farm Corps (RVFC), Livestock & Dairy Development Board (L&DDB), Islamabad.
All the stakeholders interested in buffalo development are earnestly requested for sharing information and views to be used for the socio economic development of the buffalo farmers.
