Hi NMTF,

See email below from the Office of eDiplomacy at State as follow up to my registration with Tech@State.

Thought this may be a program that interests you guys. Definitely something we would want to distribute on our networks.

Cheers,
Boris

Dear Ms. Roddy,

Thanks very much for reaching out and bringing the VSFS program to my attention. This is definitely something that will be of interest to the New Media Task Force and the broader SIPA community. I assume that the program is open to graduate students as well?

Please do add me to your list, though use my Columbia email, bm2...@columbia.edu if you can. Meantime, I'll spread the word about the program through our networks and will pass along new information when you release it in June.

If there are other opportunities like this, or other ways the NMTF might work with Tech@State or the VSFS program, please do let me know!

Regards,
Boris

Dear Boris,

My colleague, Tim Hayes, mentioned that you recently  joined the Tech@State community and I wanted to reach out to make sure you know about the Virtual Student Foreign Service (VSFS) which is also run out of the Office of eDiplomacy.  VSFS offers U.S. citizen college students the opportunity to apply to virtually intern with the U.S. Department of State, USAID, and other foreign affairs and federal agencies.  We hope you can spread the word to SIPA students.

VSFS projects may be research based, contributing to reports on issues such as human rights, economics or the environment. They may also be more technology oriented, such as working on web pages, or helping produce electronic journals. Some projects are centered around youth and student engagement.  Selected eInterns are expected to work virtually for about ten hours per week on their projects.

Projects are solicited from offices and posts in the spring and students apply to their top three projects in July.  If selected, students begin the eInternship in September and continue through the end of April.  Some students have received course credit for their work.  eInternships are unpaid and do not require a security clearance.  A list of the current year projects is here and new positions will be posted at the end of June.

May we add your contact information to our university email list to let you know when the next round of VSFS positions are available?  Please let us know if you have any questions.

Best,

Bridget
