Hi Tech Competition Applicants,

Thank you again for entering the New Media Task Force tech for development pitch competition. You really made it a memorable event.

Now that you’ve recovered from you turkey or tofurky comas, I wanted to send a quick appeal for applicants to lead the New Media Task Force next year and join the list of current and former NMTF board members that are shaping the future of ICT for development. If you’re interested in getting into this field, the Task Force is a great way build your network and hone your skills.

The deadline to apply is Monday! Hope to see your app in the NMTF inbox.

Best regards,

Jesper and the NMTF Board

P.S. If you are a second year, I apologize for the Spam though I doubt you’ve read far enough to receive my apology.

Hi NMTF,

Are you interested in new media, including ICTs and mapping? Do you want to help guide the direction New Media Task Force takes over the next year? Do you want to join the hallowed tradition of awesome NMTF leaders (present email-writer excluded)? Then apply for the 2013 NMTF board!

We are accepting applications for 4 board positions until Monday, December 2nd! To apply, email us a brief statement (1 page max) detailing why you want to join the board, which position you would like to apply for, your background, and your vision for NMTF (what direction(s) would you like to take the group in?). Also, if you are interested in a specific thematic area (for instance, policy, social media, mobile technology, crisis mapping, etc.) include that too!

The available positions are:

President
Time Commitment: 3-4 hours a week (Varies with proximity to key events).
Create annual strategy, set agenda for the year.
Oversee all NMTF events and activities.
Maintain relationships with established (internal and external) contacts and seek out new partnerships - including faculty advisor.

Vice President
Time Commitment: 2-3 hours a week (Varies with proximity to key events)
Assist President in setting agenda and overseeing activities.
Oversee and assist other boardmembers in their duties
Liaise with SIPA administration and SIPASA to ensure student group guidelines and requirements are met.

Finance Director
The finance director's position is a reasonable amount of work. In terms of hours, it depends on the number of events held -it usually entails contacting vendors and going through the business office to ensure that financial logistics are taken care of. It's fun because you get to have some involvement in all events that are planned and you get to work a little bit with each group member. (No need to worry about figuring out all the procedures and forms -student leadership sessions led by OSA are more than enough to help you figure it out).

Communications Director
Also known as the Communications Czar, this position is where the real power is. You get to send out emails to all sorts of listserves without fear of spamming anyone! You can post to Twitter, Facebook, and social networking sites no one has heard of! (if you're lucky, you can start a MySpace page!) Time commitment depend on events, with probably about 2-5 hours a week being normal. This is scattered around when emails need to go out, blog posts need to go up, or flyers need to be distributed. You are involved in all of the events but not the focal person for any really, which allows you some flexibility (you can get more involved as you like). This position also allows you to be the digital "face" of NMTF through blogs and twitter, and you can increase your knowledge of what is happening in the ICT and New Media spaces worldwide. Finally, as first point of contact for email inquiries, you can find some interesting connections.

All positions also require Logistics and Event Planning.

If you have any questions or want to discuss your ambitions with current board members, email us and we will put you in touch!

Thank you,

NMTF Board
