Hey ESC Members,

We have some outreach scheduled for this Friday in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes at the CVCS.

The 4th (8:30-10:00) and 5th (12:10-2:30) grade classes are looking for a plate tectonic lesson:
Karen Gram: "For my 4th and 5th grade we have been doing a lot of water stuff, so I think the tectonic models would be interesting for them.  They need to know the forces that cause volcanoes and earth quakes, also the slow vs. fast processess of the changing surface of the Earth."

The 6th (8:30-11:15) grade class is looking for a planetary geology lesson:
Keith Burns:  "I am starting space science soon, probably in March, and I know we will
study the solar system and other planets, so I don't know if anyone would
have something related to volcanoes on other planets to teach my class?"

If anyone is interesting in planning and teaching one of these lessons or helping out in the classroom, let me know ASAP.  You don't have to fill the entire class period, but should probably plan a least a 45 min lesson.

Also, if you know anybody outside the ESC listserv that might want to help, forward the message on.  I don't feel like spamming the department.

Nicole

Hey,

I meant to talk to you about this in class today but forgot. I'd love
to help in some way.

I'd be glad to assist someone else if they want help. I think I'd have
trouble planning something by myself though.

Hello all

Just a heads up, I'm going out to do the Rio Grande water quality sampling with CVCS this Wednesday from 8:30-11:30 if anyone would like to join me.

Hey Nicole,

Sorry I totally forgot to reply to this. I would love to help out, but I don't know if I can throw a lesson together that quickly... anyone else volunteer yet? Maybe team work? I could totally bust out the graham cracker plate tectonics lesson if we're allowed to give the kids sugar lol.

Hey Team,

I'd like to do a plate tectonic lesson with the 4th and 5th grade class. When I was in 6th grade we learned about plate tectonics using graham crackers and frosting. Now I'm a geologist. So maybe I can inspire a new generation of geologists with sugar?

Here's a description of the lab: Snack Tectonics

Anyone want to help me out?? I'll probably do the early class, then someone else could do the later class.

David volunteered to help out, but not teach a lesson.  I was going to do something like that for plate tectonics.  I'm going to prepare 3 lessons today and tomorrow, because I doubt I'll get very many volunteers.  No big deal.  If you want to help out, though, can you start prepping a lesson and I'll finish it up tomorrow on plate tectonics?
