planning ESC trips!

Hello ESC members!

Congratulations, if you received this email, then you are on the ESC mailing list. I'll probably send a similar email out through the department just in case anyone doesn't receive this one. I just heard back from the SA, and our budget was approved. Now we need to set some dates and make some plans! Here are the things we discussed at the meeting, that I included on the budget:

• A day trip to the ABQ natural history museum. The entrance fee will be covered.
• A day trip to White Sands. The entrance fee will be covered, we can apply for travel funds as well.
• Camping at City of Rocks. Camping/entrance fee will be covered, and we can apply for travel funds.
• I also asked for a little money for outreach. If anyone is interested in giving an earth science related lesson at the elementary school, we can buy a few supplies. 

Luke also called the travertine quarry in Belen, and they can give us a tour. Weekdays only though, so probably a Friday afternoon.

Since everyone has busy schedules and there is no way we're all going to be free on the same weekend, it's going to work like this: If you are really interested in a trip, and at least a few people can commit to that date, you're in! I'd much rather have just a few enthusiastic people go on a trip than have a bunch of people ask to change the date then flake out. So, here's what I want from you: 

1. Email me the weekend(s) during the semester that you are available to go to White Sands (day trip) or City of Rocks (overnight trip)

2. Let me know how committed you will be to a trip that weekend. E.g., "I really want to go to White Sands, and I could go the weekend of Oct. 27th or 28th." OR "I'm interested in the City of Rocks camping trip, but I can't commit this early in the semester." In that case, we'll let the people that REALLY want to go pick the date, and you can let me know when the time comes closer whether or not you can join. 

So, people who can definitely go on a trip a certain weekend will set the date. People who aren't sure can let me know later if that weekend works for them. Sound fair? Since the weather will be getting colder, I suggest that City of Rocks should happen sooner in the semester. I went to White Sands in the middle of winter last year and it was fine. Then maybe the museum and travertine quarry can happen later in the semester. But these are just suggestions, when we go is up to YOU!

I am free on any dates except for this weekend and Thanksgiving weekend. Keep emailing if you get any solid dates for the trips! I'm planning on attending all of them!
