October Meeting

Hi All,

I really do think we need to decide when we are going to have our October meeting as soon as possible for the following reasons:

Some of us will decide on whether or not to enter the club competition based on the date.

Those members whose spouses or other guests might want to attend need to know the date as far in advance as possible in case they have alternate plans for one of them.

Since this is basically a potluck meal, we need to know who will be available to bring different dishes.

Those of us with travel plans need to know whether or not we will be able to attend.

This needs to be a club decision so each member should vote for the date that works best for you.

This is a perfect example of why I'm no longer involved that much with the brew club. It used to be a fun event. We would show up with our home brew and some pretzels and have fun, and now it's turned into a potluck, a competition every month. At one time, it was a lidhearted fun group and now it's no fun anymore. That's why I stopped going a few years ago. I think there's in the past. We never had to worry about spouses and dietary concerns for everyone. We just brought pretzels.

I vote for the 24th. More time for everyone to brew and it sounds like a better date for most people.

The Oktoberfest event has replaced our holiday party which was always an informal potluck.  We changed the main annual party to Oktoberfest because more people are generally available in October than over the holidays.  The mini club competitions have always been informal and opt-in.  It's a way for people to expand into brewing styles they may not have ever tried before.

Regarding this year's Oktoberfest party, I'd also vote for the 24th.

Actually Ted, we only have competitions quarterly not monthly.  We started an annual competition last year in order to encourage everyone to brew more often and it has worked out well.  The Oktoberfest meeting is great as we get to spend an entire afternoon together sharing lots of great food and really good to really great beer.  The nice thing is that we are not dependant on one person to supply all of the food when we meet at their house which makes it a lot less work and stress for the host.  In addition, it is fun to meet the spouses and guests who otherwise do not get to attend our meetings.  They liven up the proceedings and make it an even more fun event.

Yes, we have never done competitions every month, nor potlucks. The Oktoberfest replaced the annual Christmas gathering years ago and is the one big party that we put on every year.

Meetings are still a lot of fun so I hope you'll rethink about coming to some. There's no requirement that you participate in any of the quarterly competitions and we still sit around and sample each others' beer, even at the competition meetings. If anything, the competitions added a bit more fun to those who like to push their skillsets.

Actually, Eric, for several years before you lived here all we ever had was pretzels, and sometimes Brandon would bring a loaf of spent grain bread that's it and beer and Jim, the Elder and beer and the meetings were held in the SFBC warehouse . The reasons we always had meetings on Tuesdays is because it was dollar off pint night. We used a folding table and everyone brought their own chairs. It was primitive, but it was awesome.

Actually Ted,

I have been coming to meetings since 2016 and I remember those.  In fact, we still have just those types of snacks when we meet at Santa Fe Brewing with Brandon often bringing homemeade bread.  We only have meals when meeting at the home of a member.  It does not change anything I said previously.

I've only been a member since 2018, but I've seen it change, as you would expect in any club, as membership and the hobby also change. One thing that's consistent is that there are great people and great beers. It has always been my favorite night of the month. 

I miss our old friends and hope they drop by from time to time. New friends too. Don't feel like you can't come without a beer.

Actually Eric, your wrong. I'm talking about the four santa fe. Brewing built their headquarters pretty sure you didn't live here back in twenty ten I know you have to be right about everything, and that's one of the reasons why i'm not involved in the club anymore. Typical transplant, moves to santa fe and knows everything about everything. Santa fe. The only people that are in the club. Now that were in it, then were Dave. Ken me and brandon, everyone else has moved on.

Guys, really. Take it off the main list. 

The club is what it is today, and those of us who attend like it. Those who don't have their reasons, and that's fine. You can start a new drinking club if that's what you want. 

And if you want to be a part of the current club and change how we do things, attend and voice your opinion (politely and respectfully). Become a club officer if you like.

WOW Ted!  I never said I have to be right about everything nor that I know everything but apparently you believe you do.  I was very specific about having joined this club in 2016.  Again, everything I posted previously is based on fact.  Maybe try actually reading what I said instead of trying to put words in my mouth to suit your opinion.  The club has not only evolved but has become a more welcoming one with numerous members opening their homes to us for meetings during the warmer months which is not how we did things 10 years ago which is what I have previously said.  Again, try actually reading my posts before responding to them.  If the reason you stopped coming is because I attend meetings, that is on you and also very bizarre since I have NEVER been front and center in this group nor have I ever tried or wanted to be.  You are clearly bitter that the club has evolved and you have not.  Join us for meetings or don't but don't take your shitty attitude out on me or anyone else here!
