Hey Sangres,

I received this email about an AHA sponsored regional homebrew club competition. We can talk about this at the meeting, so think about it it's something you have any interest in.

The TL;DR is: brew the aha big brew recipe pale ale as the club and send one entry as the club to the competition. If we win, the entire club gets prizes and we get mentioned in zymurgy magazine.

Big Brew Day Competition 2023 Rocky Mountain Region

 

Sangre De Cristo Craft Brewers,

 

You are invited to compete in the Big Brew Day Competition 2023!  To celebrate Big Brew Day, the Weiz Guys Homebrew Club of Loveland, Colorado, has created the Big Brew Day Competition – Rocky Mountain Region.

 

The purpose of the competition is to celebrate Big Brew and homebrewing by bringing homebrew clubs together to make the same official recipe for side-by-side competition.  This competition is by invitation only for all AHA registered homebrew clubs in the Rocky Mountain states of Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.   Winners of the Competition (First, Second, and Third-place clubs) ·         Will have their homebrew club featured in Zymurgy magazine. ·         Will receive prizes for all of the club’s AHA members. ·         Will have all entry fees donated to their designated charitable organization. o   First-place winner: 50% of all entry fees. o   Second and third-place winners - 25% each of all entry fees.

 

NOTE: This is a private competition registered with the American Homebrewers Association and hosted by ReggieBeer.com.  You must enter the competition as a homebrew club. 

 

Register Your Homebrew Club

If you haven’t already done so, register your homebrew club at ReggieBeer.com.

1.    Select Login / Login from the menu.

2.    If you already have a Reggie Club account, in the Login field type Club, ("Club(comma)(space)) and the first few letters of your club name, (e.g., Club, Weiz).

3.    Type your password.  After logging in, you will see all the history and stats for all entries in all historical competitions for all of your club members (Reggie comps only).

4.    If you do not already have a Reggie Club account, click the Create New Reggie Account button.

5.    For the Last Name, type "Club".  Enter your password and all of the contact information.

6.    Start typing your club’s name into the Homebrew Club field (e.g., "Weiz") then select your club from the drop-down list.

7.    Click Add Account

8.    Contact Nel...@ReggieBeer.com for additional questions about registering your club.

Schedule of Events

·         04/07/2023: Entry Window Opens (National Beer Day).

·         05/06/2023: Big Brew Day.

·         05/13/2023: Entry Window Closes.

·         06/01/2023: Drop Off Window Opens.

·         06/30/2023: Drop Off Window Closes.  (Entries must be received by 06/30/2023 to be eligible)

·         07/08/2023: Big Brew Day Competition.

·         The competition will be held at the AHA offices in Boulder, Colorado.

Official Rules

·         You must enter the competition as a homebrew club.  You may not enter as an individual.

·         Each homebrew club is allowed to submit one (1) entry into the competition.

·         An entry consists of three (3) 10 ounce or larger bottles/cans.

• The entry must be the official Big Brew 2023 homebrew recipe provided by the AHA for Big Brew.

·         The official Big Brew 2023 homebrew recipe is Nearly Nirvana Pale Ale.

·         If specific brands of malts, malt extract, or yeast are not available, equivalent substitutions are allowed.  If substitutions are used, the modified recipe must be provided.

• All entries in the competition must be brewed on Big Brew Day at a gathering organized by the homebrew club.
• A gathering of a homebrew club is defined as at least two (2) individuals.

·         Homebrew clubs are encouraged to brew several batches of the official Big Brew 2023 homebrew recipe on Big Brew Day, and to hold a club-only competition (COC) to select the club’s competition entry.

·         All homebrew clubs must designate a registered charitable organization.

• A photograph of the gathering of your homebrew club on Big Brew Day is required.  If you win, this photograph will be used in Zymurgy magazine.  Up to four (4) photographs may be submitted.
• Photographs of winning clubs will be used depending on the content.  Please keep it clean and appropriate.  The selection of all photographs is at the discretion of the American Homebrewers Association.
