Everybody loves a good argument. Nothing quite gets one’s creative juices flowing like a good, heated debate, andthe euphoria and satisfaction derived from coming out on top of such a debate is unparalleled. And it is with this in mind that the Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics

(SAMSOE), NMIMS Mumbai presents “Shastrarth” 2012, its annual intercollegiate economics debate on 1st Sept., 2012. Now in its second year, Shastrarth’s aim is to provide a platform for bright young minds to match their intellect against the best in the country. With an exciting format which is sure to test debaters to the limit, and renowned heavyweights from the world of academia, business and cinema as judges, this is one “War of Words” that students all over Mumbai are going to mark on their calendar every year.

With topics such as “Capitalism is dead…. Long live Capitalism!!!”and “No jokes please! We are Indians”, and a novel approach including a “Turncoat” round in the semi-finals, ‘Shastrarth’ in its debut year proved to be a hit with the participants, while staying true to its core principle of being Economics based.

This time around, “Shastrarth” promises to be bigger, better and more eventful, with 50 teams including the top colleges from Mumbai, Pune and some from even Delhi participating. The winning team gets to walk away with a prize money of Rs. 10,000, together with a trophy, while there are prizes for ‘Best Speaker’ also.
