I'm not far from installing Crouton Linux on my Chromebook. Other than constant minor irritations of how Chrome OS works (or doesn't work), and obvious reasons, Chrome OS updates have been mucking about with WiFi, which has made my WiFi either: 1. not work, or 2. work every few minutes when it decides it wants to.... (I had a work around, but the latest update has prevented 2.4G connection and made 5G intolerable!)

One of the things I didn't think I'd have any problem with is creating a recovery image... Evidently ithere are different versions depending on which hardware version of HP Chromebook x360 14 hardware I have (original, a, b, or c version), and the utility doesn't do anything to determine that...

Does model 14-da0011dx and/or sku_number=4XU18UA#ABA indicate I have the original model version?

I don’t have a mapping handy, but usually I reboot to recovery mode to get the exact model (dragon air, sona, blooguard...) - then reboot back and make an image.

HTH and happy to dig in more if that doesn’t help!

Not long after I discovered Crouton wasn't what I thought it was. sigh It is a full Linux environment, but it runs within Chrome OS... (On the bright side, the Powerwash seems to have fixed my WiFi problems.) Also Crouton GUI programs (including the desktop environment itself) have serious rendering problems.

Looking into disabling firmware write protect and https://mrchromebox.tech/ firmware update to be able to truly install Linux. Anyone else gone down this rabbit hole before? A few hops to get there, but originated at a trusted source...

Kaybe Lake hardware, so if I'm reading things correctly, I have to open it up and remove the battery (temporarily?) to get it to disable firmware write protect. And after flashing BIOS, it can't go back to Chrome OS. I'd rather not brick it before I get it paid for on my no interest financing.
