I have been using the open-source VLC video player on my Android phone, and
have become frustrated with the lack of persistent bookmarks. If you pause
playback, and use the phone temporarily for something else, you may or may
not be able to resume play at the point where you left off. If Android has
chosen to swap the player out of memory, or you have to reboot the phone,
the best you can do is manually search for the point where you stopped. The
desktop version of VLC can save bookmarks, but that apparently was left out
of the Android version.

Can anyone tell me how to use bookmarks in the Android VLC player, or else
recommend another player that has this feature?

This isn't the answer BUT, the Vimeo app for my Android phone seems to work well, at least for Vimeo videos.

I've had better luck with MX Player, it feels a lot more polished, and the network streaming works way better. If you reopen a file (or network stream) you've previously viewed, it'll ask if you want to pick up where you left off.
