Hey all. Recently got set up with a service that offered a special use case debit card with a rewards program. Given how much this platform charges for cancelling and reissuing cards, I'm wanting some extra security while paying online. I use samsung and Google pay in the real world, but paying for subscription services doesn't seem to be allowed on those platforms.

I did a bit of searching and found Privacy.com.  I recognize giving my info to as few parties as possible is the most secure, but they claim to have a service that randomizes card numbers to create virtual cards.  They seem legitimate, but as always: wanting to seek perspective from the community to aid personal security decisions.

Thanks for any thoughts and/or recommendations,
Adam H

Can you set up Paypal with a Business debit Mastercard to use that
rewards card as an automatic backup for funds? I typically link my
bank account, and don't use the bank account for *any* direct
purchases, for two reasons: 1) it limits my exposure in case of
fraud, and 2) Paypal returns 1% cash back to all transactions
processed as credit.

As compared to a regular bank, Paypal will credit me the entire amount
of a fraudulent transaction *while* it completes its investigation.
Regular banks won't credit you back until their investigation is
complete, which could be up to 90 days later.

I really like privacy.com. I've used them for about a year now, and I find that having it comes in super handy quite often.  They make their money off the fees of the transactions you make, like a CC company does, which is why they're free.  I find a lot of value in being able to make a card that I can pause.  In general, I make a single transaction and then pause the card (not allowing for any future transactions until I unpause it).  Then, the next time I need it, I just unpause it and use it immediately.  It's super easy to do with the chrome extension.  It's also nice that it'll give you a summary of all of your transactions from the chrome extension for all cards, or whatever particular card you want.

Further, if a place gets hacked I simply delete the affected card and no longer have to worry about it.  Finally, It's also nice that it accepts any name I want to use, with any billing address & zipcode, so if I think a site is particularly vulnerable, it gives me another avenue of keeping my PII safe.

Overall, I'm a fan, FWIW.
