Dear all,
On 17 August, NLU Delhi held its Convocation ceremony, where the Chief Justice of India was present as chief guest. Ms. Surbhi Karwa, who was awarded the Gold Medal as the first rank holder of the LL.M. batch, chose not to attend the ceremony to express her disagreement with the Supreme Court’s handling of the sexual harassment allegations against the CJI. Subsequently, the Vice-Chancellor issued a press release on 20 August stating that "as University, we are highly perturbed” over the “unnecessary inconvenience to the Hon'ble Chief Justice of India". Some alumni of NLU Delhi (batch of 2015) wish to express our disappointment with the manner in which the administration has engaged with the actions of Ms. Surbhi, as well as provide our endorsement of her stance. To this end we have drafted a statement, enclosed within the attached Google form. We are now circulating this to all alumni; if you wish to sign the statement please fill out the Google form and we will include your names in the final letter.
