Dear Alumni,
As you may all know, over the past week several students of NLU Delhi came out with testimonies of sexual harassment by other students in the University. Shreya Rastogi (Research Associate, Project 39A and Batch of 2013)) and I (Research Fellow, CLPG and Batch of 2018) have been appointed to a committee constituted by the Vice-Chancellor to recommend measures that the University can take to help survivors of sexual harassment and assault on campus, and design a plan for sensitisation programmes to be conducted by the University. The Committee consists of Dr. Amita Punj, Dr. Aparna Chandra, Dr. Aparajita Bhatt, Dr. Anju Puneet Singh, and the two of us.
As alumni, we have an important role to play in making the college environment a safe and inclusive place. We would be grateful if you could send in your recommendations regarding the measures the University could take to a) sensitise the college community on consent and other issues relating to gender and sexuality, and b) address the needs of survivors of sexual harassment. The Committee is to submit its report by the 15th of October, 2018, so please send in your suggestions by the 12th of October.
