Maintenance Mode?

I see this in the notes on contributing:

"NLTK is in maintenance mode. We welcome bugfixes. We can consider minor enhancements if they are clearly documented in an NLTK issue and are supported by a team member who is willing to review a PR. (You are welcome to make a case for a major enhancement, but please note we have limited capacity to deal with it. Please enlist an NLTK team member before doing substantial coding.)"

It looks like this note was added as part of the 3.9.2 release. This seems disturbing. Are we one step away from end-of-life? I guess the note above speaks for itself, but, I'm wondering if anyone here has any comment.

It all depends on volunteers; we have capacity to review PRs and make releases.

Thanks. That’s encouraging to hear. I’ve added quite a bit to the concordance index, and was hoping at some point to build a PR or two for all that. We’ll see how it goes when I do that.
